  • late payment fees and perhaps over limit fees if that applies to a store card.
  • hi, i am in the process of claiming back charges from argos for my partner.they have just offered 65 pound on a 136 pound claim, i now want to turn this down and go for full amount ,but my partner is worried that if he does not except this they may close his account and have to pay the balance in full. can they do this? have c/c companies done this?
    thanks in advance.

  • Best have a look at the T&Cs regarding how/when they can close the account.

As a matter of interest does the £65 amount to your charge reclaim less £12 each charge?
  • ok thanks- the difference in charge form the 12 pound fee amounts to 40.50 but they are prepared to offer 65 as a gesture of goodwill.

  • I have just received an offer from Argos but they have said because of the OFT recommondations they are only offering the difference of the charge and the £12 recommended charge.

So instead of £75 they are offering me £30. Should i take it? Or should i say no deal and risk them going to court over such a small amount of money?

If it was me I would refuse. Otherwise it means they are still making profits at your expense. If you take them to court, they have to pay the fees so it is not in their benefit to go to court but it is your decision not mine.
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

    Hi

My brother has a store card with Argos and has been charged over £400 in late payment fees over the last 4 years. Also my mother and father have a mortgage with the Halifax and get charged £40 everytime they are a few days late with a payment. Can the process which is used with the banks be used with for these too. I must point out that my brother still has a balance of £1000 and my mother and father still have balance on their mortgage, although they only have a year left on it is this something which would be better done when there are no outstanding balances?

    Please advise
