    Plenty of myHermes fun.....

Looks like the last two parcels have been stolen, or gone missing being shipped to my house. Interesting.

    Sounds familiar :(

  • Quick question for you all - I've used hermes as my local courier is a relative so safe hands at this end. Out of 50 parcels I've sent, 6 have arrived damaged beyond repair and 1 is missing. The missing parcel has 'been delivered ' but I notice that no signature has been obtained despite this being paid for.

I've posted on fb and tweeted to receive the usual rubbish so I'm wondering if anyone has pursued a small claims case and won?

Also, any recommendations for a courier service that collects from me and isn't a waste of space?

There are plenty of couriers who will collect from you, but no-one will come close to My Hermes on price. Yodel is cheap if you go via a parcel broker like https://www.parcel2go.com but they have a worse reputation than Hermes. http://www.ipostparcels.com/ I have used in the past but they charge per collection on top of parcel prices.

Your only other choice if you send a lot of parcels regularly is to contact couriers about getting a business account. I enquired with DPD but they wanted a lot more than Hermes.

I use My Hermes a lot and rarely have a problem. I do pack my items though on the basis that if it can be broken then they will break it.

    6 out of 50 damaged?
You need to look at your packaging.

I use sturdy boxes and air pillows but they seem to like dropping things on the corners.

I'm fully aware of the monkey / peanut scenario but was hoping I would get decent feedback on couriers that people use.

Have you filed a lost claim with Hermes?

As for your damages, that is definitely down to packaging. You need to bullet proof your items.
  • It's odd that my packaging is being called into question, no amount of amazing packaging is going to protect the corner if some idiot drops it on it's corners.

As for filing claims, I've been told in a twitter dm that a form has been sent but lol and behold it hasn't arrived.

So back to my main question- has anyone taken hermes to court?

If you've been sent a claims form and it hasn't arrived, ask for it to be resent. I have not lost a Hermes claim. They are better than any other carrier at paying out.

As for your packaging......if you are having problems with corners, then the corners of your packaging are not sufficient. I send some of the most delicate of items (as do others on here) and I don't have many damages.

I see irony is lost on you.

    Yes, I'm sure they have.

If damage is going to be caused by dropping a parcel on its corner it's not properly packed. You need to put the box inside a larger one with packaging in between. If the outer box is damaged it should still protect the inner.

There is no future in having 6 damaged items out of 50. I would be very surprised if any other carrier is going to be better or paying out insurance for crumpled corners.

Unless you send pallets or items so heavy they need more than one person to carry them boxes will be crashing down conveyor belts in sorting depots and thrown into vans. That's the way of parcel deliveries.
