Phew! We've just received a package via Hermes. It turns out that our local delivery agent seems to be OK. Knocking properly on the door and waiting while we found keys. That's a relief.
  • All,

Used shiply to book a courier to transport an item from Europe to UK. Item arrived damaged - this was noted on the delivery docket and photos provided - but courier isn't accepting this as evidence and has declined our claim.

I've contacted Shiply to see if they can assit with the issue but they state they only provide the linkup service to match individuals to courier companies and disputes are between the individual and courier. Funnily, I had to pay an upfront fee to Shiply to gurantee the booking, which they have confirmed covers the 'use of the site' and is seperate to the balance paid to the courier company.

Surely there is a duty of care here and they can't wash their hands?

    Any help appreciated.

I want to send luggage for my holidays to Germany, ca 20kg. Has anyone any experiences sending luggage? Which companies are the cheapest, and most reliable? Thought I save the hassle of taking it with me as I travel with a small child using public transport with several changes... I found a quote for UPS for 29.99 to 34.99 but have never used UPS.

Depends who your shipping contract was with, if you paid Shiply direct and had no contract with the courier then it's down to shiply to sort out. If your contract was with the courier obviously you should contact them as Shiply can't do fa about it.

What was the packaging like? Claims will fail if the carrier thinks it is inadequate. Unless there are tyre marks over the parcel or a hole where a forklift has gone through it, they are likely to say that damage is evidence of poor packaging.

I'm afraid that claims from carriers are often difficult and they are far more reluctant to pay out than RM.

What is the best courier company to use to send a large item on a pallet supplied and wrapped by the company at a reasonable price?

    hi

i dont know if anyone has mentioned 'anyvan' i an just found them cause i need some car seats delivered.

i think its ok you tell them what job you have and then send you quotes.

i wanted west mids to manchester for under £30. they keep quoting and you can reply to them or decline the offer. its says its free to use, i think the company must pay to advertise. you pay a small amount to the website and the rest of the balance to the person that youve chosen.

i'm not an expert but it looks ok perhaps some of the brill members could check it out and make sure its legit.

    hope this has been helpful

I'm wanting to send a moderate sized parcel to the USA, which is the cheapest company generally to use, I am checking here before I try the obvious Royal mail as they whopped up all their prices prior to privatisation?

    Thanks

What do you mean by moderate size? We really need packed dimensions and weight to give you any advice.
