Until the delivery is completed the sale has not finished, this includes delivery by courier etc. if it involves alcohol you are not allowed by law to deliver it to an under age person.

It is not that someone can not be under age in the house, just like an under age person can be at the till as long as the person selling does not think the alcohol is been bought for the under age person.

Feel free to actually find out what the law is before commenting.

I recently got a job delivering groceries; just a quick clarificiation: The delivery driver has to ensure that the person accepting the groceries are over 18- even if they are not buying age restricted products.

So if a mum does the weekly shop to be delivered whilst she is at work, leaving her 15 year old daughter to take the shopping in, the driver should refuse to deliver the goods and take them back to the store.

That is even if the groceries is just bread and milk.

Grenadine is a syrup used in cocktails mostly but it can also be used in ice-creams etc. It has no alcohol in it. I tried asking the manager why it comes up and he couldnt give me an answer. Anyone got any idea why?
Grenadine can be a syrup with no alcohol, or a liqueur with about 4% alcohol.

If you can prove you are 18 or over they have no legal right to deny the purchase.
Wrong. Legally supermarkets don't have to sell you anything if they don't want to.

There was this chap in the Daily Wail who was unable to prove he was over 18 so was refused his purchase. However the thing he was buying was a chocolate pudding, and the staff would not sell it to him as they though he might burn himself on it when he cooked it!

You could not make this stuff up:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2240968/Chocolate-pudding-Youll-ID-Tesco-asks-24-year-old-ID-burn-dessert.html

We had Tescos deliver to our home, and initially the driver would not let us have the wine we ordered as he saw our children in the house. He did change his mind when I told him to take the lot back.

Thats just plain stupid as children are legal to drink at home with a parents permission from age 5 anyway. Regarding the dessert thing my 15 yr old regularly makes pot noddles, pasta and sauce or microwaves leftovers as the home cooked meals he gets aren't enough to fill his hollow legs lol. My 9 yr old uses the toaster and can warm up leftovers in the MW as well. I used to make brews for my parents at 8 ish. Its all the lawyers fault, everything is "in case" someone sues them-like packs of nuts with "warning contains nuts" on the back ;).

I didn't realise this but I did check the ingredients of that particular brand and it said nothing about alcohol content. The store manager was very confused as well lol. :D

My son (16) was asked for a valid ID when Tesco delivered the usual monthly heap of cat food and cat litter etc and he was the only one home. He's a bit of a !!!!!! tbh so went and picked up his father's driving licence off his desk and showed the delivery man that. Well, my son does strongly resemble his dad but there's no way he looks 50...however the delivery man either didn't notice or he didn't care tbh! So we got our cat litter.

When I'm shopping and pick up booze I always tell the kids to push off when I'm going through the checkout. It makes life easier. I was IDd once though (I was 50!) but as I don't carry my passport on me and my driving licence is an old paper one I was somewhat stuck. Fortunately another school mum was working on another checkout so I called down "C, am I over 25??" and when she stopped laughing I got my bottle of wine.

I can see the point of it but tbh, it's not a well thought out scheme...

It would be so much simpler if anyone buying age-registricted products had to show ID whether you are 18 or 80. That way, everyone will know in advance that they will need ID, and you won't get any embarrassed shop assistants.

There is the small matter of civil liberties. This is why the government of the day dropped ID cards.

As an aside I think this Think 25 rule is stupid, why should a 25 year old be forced tp carry ID when he has been legally entitled to buy alcohol for the last seven years or the last quarter of his life.

There is no entitlement. If someone wants to buy booze they have to make the seller believe that they are of legal age to do so. If you choose not to carry id, don't complain because a bar owner has chosen to id you.
