I've cancelled my TV and Phone from Virginmedia but I'm keeping the broadband. I'm going to Sky for Sky+ HD.
I keep reading online that Sky say you must be connected to a phoneline, I read somewhere they'll charge me £25 if I don't? I don't want one, my cable broadband doesn't require one.

wouldn't you get a better/cheaper deal getting your TV package with your cable provider?0

Sky insist that you have a dog if you are taking Multiroom, however if not youll just have to pay the fee. Also ordering box office movies and sports events would have to be done over the phone.
As above, get a better deal from wierdy beardy. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

No, I cancelled Virgin Media and when retentions finally called the best they could do is £48 + price increase in Feb (and I'm already paying £47 anyway!). As I have a friends & family code for Sky, it works out I'm only paying £38 a month now for what I want.0 -
So Sky only insist on a phone line in case I need to call them to order a film?!
The Sky box does the calling for you.Not just if you want to order a film, but it will periodically upload information about your viewing habits to Sky.
You could get a VoIP Analogue Terminal Adapter to give you a 'phoneline' over the internet and plug it into that.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
The phone line connection is a contractual requirement for the 1st 12m of your TV contract, unless you buy it out at the point of sign-up, but this clause is not enforced, unless you have Multiroom of course.
So effectively you could have unplugged it the moment the installer left.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Just point the installer to the redundant phone socket and he'll no doubt just plug it in without testing it. If he does test it just tell them that your line stopped working yesterday and an engineer is coming out in 2 days to fix it.0

Some of the installers seemingly aren't remotely bothered if it's connected or not.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
