BE BOLSHY! STOP SUPERMARKETS STEALING OUR CASH

I never sign the till receipt before I receive the cash, usually it's not a problem for the cashiers either. Only a couple of times that supermarkets cashiers insisted I should sigh it before they would open the till drawers, I just refused and simply replied "why should I sigh for something that I have not yet received?"
All in all, I think this is a very good point, supermarkets should change their cashback handling procedure.0 -
Just a cash machine instead. Saves holding up people behind you in the queue at the supermarket.MFW 2015 #41 = £20,515/£20,515

I work at a supermarket part time. (Am a student)
As more people are using chip & pin having to sign for cashback is becoming rarer.
Anyway our policy is that the customer has to initial the cashback before they receive it – at the same time that they are signing for their bill. It makes more sense to sign for both at the same time, it’s quicker easier and saves time.
If a customer demands to initial the cashback after I’ll refuse to give them cashback. We’re not a bank, if they don’t like it they can queue up at the bank or use a cashpoint. We don't normally forget to give them the cashback either, it comes up on the screen for us at the checkout. If somebody does forget take it easy, it's an easy mistake to make when you're busy and have been on a till for a few hours non-stop. It can easily be rectified..Just remember to say straight away when you've been given your receipt if they've forgot your cashback! Much easier to sort out then.0 -
thanks for that.
i too work in a supermarket, here we ask customers to initial for cash (loads don't) to say they have ASKED for it.
then when we have removed the money from the till WE INITIAL THE TILL RECEIPT before we give it to them, to say we have given it to them.
i do that, and i don't get many back complaining they ain't had itthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

Cashiers initial the receipt before they give you the money.
I would just like to say that 10 years ago supermarket workers were trained to a high standard and that the customer was always right. Whatever happened to that. Most dont even say good morning! It would be nice to see a happy face and if you get annoyed at customers moaning and complaining you should work somewhere else. All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0 -
I have worked in retail and always attempted to keep cheery while dealing with customers but you just need to read a few posts on here about the way that supermarket workers are treated by the customers to realise that the place to work in a supermarket is not the tills
Courtesy works both ways and to say that if you don't like customers moaning and complaining you should work elsewhere is fantasy-land, moaning customers are everywhere :rotfl:
I always pass the time of day with every shop assistant and have always been treated well, even when complaining or returning.
oh and to keep on topic, if I am asked to sign for cash back before I get it, I do as probably the assistant has been told to ask me to do this.0 -

With Tesco Clubcard Plus, Tesco Personal Finance are indeed acting as my bank and already have my money. If a cashier refused me cashback, I would be very cross. I cannot actually get the money out of a cashpoint either.
Perhaps you need to go to your line manager and ask for some training in customer service.0 -
Maybe it's not if we have to sign but a case of everyone following the same policy. Then we'd know what to expect in the shops and be able to comply.....but signing to confirm I've asked for it or signing to say I have received it is just toooo confusing.....
...and I remember cashback 10 years ago, it was how I survived as a student....never had to sign for it then though.....0 -
I dont know if this will help anyone but here goes
OK this is how it works at one of my local supermarkets.
The casher is surposed to sign you recipt with the notes that he/she
is giving you... ie if £20 it could be 2 x £10 or 1 x £20.
The theory behind this is that the cashier has to open the till and take out the notes before they can wright it to your recipt.. this should lessen the chances of you leaving cash back behind...
At this store the customer doesnt sign for cash back at all...
maybe you could surgest it on customer cards at your local stores.
I would also like to add in smaller shops you have signes up ... please check your change as mistakes cannot be rectified on leaving the building......
The fact that a supermarket.. does take the time out to close the till and get it checked to me says there not all bad....0 -

Here alittle instider information for those who care... If you get cash back at a till no profit is made by the company, but if you use the hole in the wall outside.. the bank pay the company for every withdrawal.0
