I have emailed Royal Mail and am waiting for them to come back to me.

Still debating whether or not to log a complaint with the police.

I would definitely report it. Someone opened your mail and stole your money. Its no different to opening a letter addressed to you, finding a tenner in it and merrily spending that.

I was very surprised to read one of the early replies say they couldnt say they wouldn't be tempted to spend Tesco vouchers if faced with them on the doorstep. I mean they were clearly addressed to you, not them, they were someone else's property, what they have done is theft, pure and simple. And of course that's aside from opening your mail in the first place.

People's morals make me MAD. It shocking.

We still get mail, all junk I reckon, for the previous owners of our house, we've been here 5 years. I have een forwarding to them (someone who knows them gave me their forwarding adress) but I recently found out they have split up and moved on and now I have no address. If I get anything official looking I RTS it, if its obviously junk I bin it. But it has to be extremely obviously junk.

Good luck getting some results on all of this

Just taken a look at a voucher - they don't give any restriction on who may use them, or require a clubcard to redeem them.

The clubcard number isn't printed on them, in fact.

    Penny. x

My clubcard number is on mine, & on the back it says:
'vouchers can only be used once and only by the person to whom they are issued'

I'm sick of other peoples post coming to my house - the previous house owner (pre our landlady buying it) moved out in 1999 and we still get post for them. We don't have a forwarding address for them so I always put "return to sender - no longer at this address" on the envelope but will admit that sometimes I've opened the mail so I could get a return address but always sealed it back up ;) Worst thing was a man turning up from a debt collections agency and just asked for the person who used to live here by their first name, which is the same name as my partner. I've now learnt to ask for surnames as well  Oh, and don't get me started on phonecalls for people who used to live at our old address - we moved house and took the number with us (only moving across the road) and are still getting calls for them 7 years after they moved out!

We had mail for the last occupant of our house for about ten years (despite sending stuff back to the senders), & debt collectors galore ... it seems he had run up HUGE debts before leaving (the house was repossessed, & we bought it from the building society). His daughter even turned up one evening, asking if we had had any debt collectors looking for him, & asking us if we would like his address so that we could pass it on to them! I dont know what he had done to upset his daughter to make her want to do this, but we decided to keep well out of it.

I have spoken to the police and as far as they are concerned, 2 crimes have been committed and they are both easy to prove in this instance.

    1. Theft - obviously, of the vouchers
    2. Deception - as the vouchers are to be used only by the person to whom they are issued.

We have received a cheque for the £17 but no apology and no confirmation that they intend to pass on our mail in future.

I think a visit to the police station, to formally make a complaint, is in order.

    Will keep you posted.

I wouldn't be asking for the £17 back from them, it would be more like 4 x this value as I never use mine in the stores but for the deals.

exactly what i was thinking !

they really have cut their nose off to spite their face here - if it had been me an apology would have gone a long way in a aituation like this. Some people really just take the P1ss in my opinion. (excuse the language - I'm really annoyed on frugal's behalf!)

    Are yours genuine??

We'll have to agree to disagree then PenPen ;)

On my vouchers, it has the amount, both mine and dh's linked clubcard numbers, the expiry date and an online redemption code plus a barcode/number - clearly, I am not going to scan and publicly publish my clubcard details to prove a point, you'll simply have to take my word for it :rotfl:

I have double checked and you are right that it does not state a requirement for the clubcard to be produced upon redemption; although I do know that I read it and I think it was possibly in relation to the courses which were offered as part of the clubcard deals. The reason I remember reading it was because I was interested in one of the deals and it clearly stated that it could only be redeemed by the named clubcard member ... the reason it put me in a spin was because my dh had always dominated the finances and I wasn't certain I could use them with the offer ... however, at some point our clubcard numbers had been linked and so it wasn't an issue after all.

Frugal - I am glad you have double checked your legal rights re: deception and theft. Good for you! :T

All I can add is that I have always just handed over the vouchers when paying. Haven't any at the moment to check if they are personalised with card number. Maybe if they scan in Tesco card for shopping it recognises vouchers,.

However, still not cosher. Mail was opened when it shouldn't be and vouchers used fraudulenty. Surprised Tesco didn't offer some form of compensation being a large company.

With all the publicity about stealing our card numbers etc it is all a bit worrying.
