yes i think you are probably right... i was actually thinking what i would do in the same situation if i had been them and faced with some free tesco vouchers.....would it have been too tempting? Obviously i like to think not but you never know??

As you say bank stuff is in a different league..if there is a way of logging it with the police without huge repurcussions (sp?) then maybe that would be best... or you could see what the newowners have to say for themselves first? Most likely extremely apologetic!!

I believe you can log things with them if its justified. I had to do it once over something entirely different - they just put it in their log and give you a reference number... I think

Good luck getting it sorted, I was sort of lucky, when I moved house I had a catalogue I didn't use, changed address but they sent new catalogue to the old house. Anyway the new occupier ordered almost £1000 of goods from my account (limit was £1000 and I didn't have anything on it so she ordered to max). I was extremely lucky as at the time my Mam was covering maternity leave for the person who delivered the goods. She brought them to my house, I couldn't believe it!

A similar thing happened to me years ago (1990 to be exact). I had a Next catalogue, but only ever ordered one thing from it (which I paid for). As I was giving up my bedsit and going to a kibbutz in Israel for a few months I sent the next catalogue back. However they must have sent another one to me to the house because someone ordered clothes from it and never paid for them. The first I heard of it was a few months after I got back when I received a letter from a debt collection agency demanding the money. Luckily I could prove that I had been out of the country at the time they clothes were ordered, so I never heard anything else from them. But I was really annoyed, and amazed at the sheer cheek and dishonesty of some people.

Tesco shouldn't have accepted them at the store they were spent ... haven't got one in front of me but I do know there is a note on them with words to the effect that they can only be used with the card holder number on the vouchers.

Check your vouchers to make sure it has that printed on them and then raise that issue with Tesco if needs be.

Not sure about that  DH and I have a card each. I use both sets of vouchers with my card and have never been challenged.

I also use most of my vouchers for deals, and have used mine, DH's, my mother's and his mother's, and have never had a problem.

and no,to my belief you dont need to produce your clubcard when producing the vouchers, customer services told me that

A couple of years ago I gave Tesco vouchers to my daughter, who was really skint, and we were both made to feel as if we were involved in major embezzlement when she tried to use them.

Just taken a look at a voucher - they don't give any restriction on who may use them, or require a clubcard to redeem them.

The clubcard number isn't printed on them, in fact.

I think I would have been more upset that they were opening my post. Maybe they thought 'oh, it's only Tesco', but maybe it could have been a Tesco credit card? What then?

My neighbour next door has virtually the same name as me, same first name and almost identical second name (unbelievable). Sometimes her post comes through my door. This particular day, I just opened the post but was puzzled to be looking at a bank statement that obviously wasn't sent from my bank

Well I just didn't have the nerve to take it round and say I had opened it accidently, so quietly shredded it and put it in the bin. :shhh:

How could I let her know that I knew how much money was in her bank account? Mind you if I had have done, I would have pointed her in the direction of MSE. There was far too much money sat in there doing nothing :rotfl:
