Trying not to fall off the DF wagon

I've just shuffled some money around to cover all this weekend's spends. Mainly it's to cover the food shop but I have had to pinch some from the car account and the emergency account to cover the plumber.
So we have enough left in the food account and also the car account but the 'fun' account is down to £22 to last until payday which is 24th. Considering it's been a longer month, we've had xmas and I've paid over £100 out which was unforeseen expense I don't think this is bad going. It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
I didn't get up till 11am  I actually woke at about 8.30 which is still quite late for me and dd made us breakfast in bed bless her then I just sat watching tv till 11......:shhh:
We got up and had a bath then nipped to sainsbugs to get the refund on the gifts we bought yesterday. It was a couple of girly jewellery bits that were half price at £2.50 each. When we got them home I noticed that they each had an initial on the main charm...duh! And neither was right for the people we'd bought them for. So that's £5 back in my account.
Jacket potatoes are in the oven for our lunch. We were going to go for a nice long walk this afternoon but it's really cold so we are going to the outlet centre with my friend. This could be a really bad idea - I'm hoping I don't have to report any spends later
I've got a HM chilli outof the freezer for our dinner tonight and I have a huuuuuge stack of ironing to do later. The only thing tempting me to do it is my new iron. THAT novelty won't last either :cool:It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
:T For lazy Sunday mornings ... I love them !!! Didn't get up till 9.30 myself .... Lovely !
I hope you are starting to feel a bit better Poles, takes ages to shift that flu thing.
Thank goodness your plumber bill wasn't too horrific , always something though. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get any nasty surprises before pay day !
Have a good week xThe final chapter - £4893 to go out of £30K0 -
Well I just spent £4.65 while we were out yesterday and that was in the coffee shop and it was from money already in my purse.
Woke up this morning to a sprinkling of snow and before we left for school it started chucking it down. It all thawed by this afternoon but we are promised more
Today has been a NSD
I also checked my account on Quidc0 and the 10% cashback on the M + S dress I ordered and returned has been confirmed not once but twice (I originally ordered it and then cancelled the order because it had gone through on my old debit card but the cashback stood) so that's £13 on its way to me :T
A couple of the blokes at work have been trying to get their PPI back so I thought I'd have a look and see if I'd ever been charged it. I found my old CC statements and there's nothing on there. It was worth a try though - too MSE meIt's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
Brrrrr....it's starting to get cold. -8 tonight round here they reckon so I have pushed the boat out and will keep the heating on till 10pm
The snow will hit here Friday apparently.
In view of this dd and I are going to do our big food shop tomorrow night instead of Friday. I really don't want to be stranded here with no food and only able to get to the extortionate local shops.
Despite the cold I've been for 2 runs this week at lunchtime. I layered up though and after about 5 minutes I was warmed up - just my nose was cold. I had my pole class last night and only have one bruise to show for it today. The exercise has certainly cheered me up.
The only money I've spent this week is £1.20 on a couple of stamps and £3 on a dressing gown for dd that someone at work was selling - virtually unworn. It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
About time I showed my face in here again (to anyone still reading).
It is payday on Thursday and I am in the enviable and completely alien (to me at least) position of still being in credit by over £100 :j Mainly courtesy of the CSA i might add but I also got £13 cashback paid from Quidc0. Having said all that I am really proud of myself because it is a long month, we have had xmas, I've bought dd quite a lot of new uniform (including school shoes), we splurged a bit in the sales and I have paid out over £100 for a completely unforeseen plumbers bill.
There is something to be said for all this snow though - it keeps me away from the shops
Apart from doing our big shop last Thursday (£41.97) and petrol on Friday (£38.98) - both already accounted for - all I have spent is 90p on a paper on Saturday.
The snow started here on Friday morning and there was about an inch settled. Not too bad for driving in.
DD and I walked to the library on Saturday mainly for the exercise but also because I didn't really want to take the car out even though the snow wasn't too bad. We managed nearly 3 miles there and back and it was good to get the fresh air. I like walking in the snow. Not so good with a bag of library books on your back though...
On Saturday night I went to a music quiz with mum and dad at the golf club. We came 7th out of 19 teams which wasn't too bad. Dad had to walk me back home before the end because I had such a bad migraineand it has only just completely gone.
It chucked it down with snow for about 12 hours yesterday. DD wanted to build a snowman and wanted my help but I thought the cold would make my head even worse. I can't express how much I didn't want to go out but I did (out of guilt) and to my surprise I actually quite enjoyed it and it didn't make my head any worse (although the cold air didn't help it). Besides I was so glad I went out there and had fun with her.
We had roast gammon and all the bits for lunch and afterwards dd did the washing up and cleared up the kitchen and afterwards she cleared out one of my cupboards!! It's half empty now she's chucked out all the out of date stuff
No more snow overnight but we walked the mile to school this morning as it is ridiculous trying to get parked in the roads round there as it's mainly uphill and they don't get gritted. My friend gave me a lift back home to my car in his 4x4 and I spent the next half an hour clearing all the snow off the car and digging myself out of my parking space. Fortunately I had the foresight to park the car facing down the road or I would never have got out. So i was in work a bit late but at least I got there.
Tonight we have had chilli for our dinner - nice and warming on a cold night. I have ironed 2 sets of bedding and now watching the celebrity bake off. It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
Hello Poles. Just peeking in and have only read this page/your starting post.
Judging by your snow discussions you must live somewhere not too distant from me as we had the exact same snow patternsIs it raining where you are?
Well done on the excellent financial position so close to payday! The plumbers bill could have rocked you a bit but you dealt with it like a pro.
Your weekly 'big shops' are around the same price as me. Do you meal plan? This is something I need to get doing. I buy meat, split it down, then buy more meat as the frozen stuff doesn't jump out at me to say 'chilli' or 'wraps' etc. I end up buying the same meat as I have in the freezer, hence my challenge to empty the freezer of all meat before I buy any more this month!!
Hope you have a good night. I shall be subscribing

Hi liltdiddylilt  and welcome to my ramblings.
I'm in the south east and we haven't had any rain for a while.
I do meal plan, regrettably a few things we have week in week out but if I enjoy cooking them and my dd likes eating them I'm going to stick with themI do the same as you and split the meat down or in the case of mince, cook a large batch and freeze into portions afterwards.

Well after spending virtually nothing for the last week I have well and truly made up for it today - this afternoon from about 4.30 - 5pm to be exact.
I have finally ordered myself a small laptop - I've gone for a sam$ung chromeb00k. Ive done loads of research on it after having it recommended to me. It won't be our main computer - I literally just wanted something small and lightweight for the internet and this looks perfect and it was only £229 - I went through Quidc0 and got a miniscule amount of cashback and it was free delivery too. Can't wait for my new toy to arrive
I also ordered dd's birthday present which is a K1ndle Fire. She reads loads and you can get games on it. It might keep her off my phone!
And last (but by no means least) I have booked our holiday :j the deposit was £166.40. Same as last year (centreparcs) as we had such a great time. It's gone up by over £100 from last year though but I've got 4 months to pay the balance and then I can just save up for our activities etc.
After all that I also spent 90p on some milk. Now I've spent all that money my car will probably go wrong....It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
90p on milk ???!!!! Splashing it around a bit Poles :rotfl:
Bargain on the laptop thingAnd DD birthday organised already I am well impressed !
