It's difficult I know, Ruth, I wouldn't be able to understand what it would be like to stop drinking, gambling etc, we can't be expected to, but to those who battle with doing so - it is very difficult and requires much courage and willpower. Mostly though, it's the thoughts of doing so that are far worse, especially "however will I manage without them?" Taking it up again? In the initial weeks and months it's hard at times of stress not to buckle, but stress won't help at all, often it has the opposite effect and makes folk smoke even more as the drugs back in the system.
Your friend might be fine once he's got that far ahead (to be sitting outside) but I bet it's the fear that it will be bad for him that worries him far more right now. Fear of the unknown affect us all - in different ways.
I told him, stay off the cigarettes or quit drinking wine..... he had to have a good long think about that! His wife stopped 2 weeks after he did but she thinks he will be smoking again once they get back from holiday. I am practising my disapproving looks and fake coughing just in case!
I wish my mum would quit. She has started smoking roll-ups instead and probably has the same number of roll-ups as she did cigarettes but they are smaller so i guess that's better. i bought her an e-cig but it kept leaking so she gave up. Even as a non smoker i was always tempted to try them as the juicy stuff inside smelled like popcorn to me haha.Sealed Pot Challenge member #071 VSP #4

Hi all  long time no see!
Reading through the thread it seems like there are lots of pennies being added to the pots :T. Just think, if we combined all our pots we could all go on a lovely holiday to somewhere very warm and sunny! Have always wanted to go to Bora Bora but I guess at my current saving rate swimming there would be my only option lol!
I'm adding £4.23 from my Tesco receipt and a whopping £15.00 from my Sainsburys one giving me a tidy sum of £62.25 in money saved from my shopping bills :j£10 a day challenge Jan: £163.31 / Feb: 151.61 / March: £163.43 / April: £142.84 / May £342.21 / June: £182.32 / £203.09

Bunny, what Ruth has told you is exactly right. So yes, just carry on saving and be proud, but please pop your banked amounts on your siggy. Thanks a lot.
That's the way to save, dinglefoot, put anything and everything you find straight in your pot!! It's amazing how it mounts up through the year.crimson.addict wrote: »I told him, stay off the cigarettes or quit drinking wine..... he had to have a good long think about that! I did the same as your Mum, Ruth, I thought I'd hate them as I'd always detested F-I-L's (they killed him through lung cancer!) and they would put me off, but they had the opposite affect!!
Please don't ever get tempted to smoke any sort of fag, Ruth, - you'll always regret it very quickly!!! When Susanne spoke about e-cigs she wasn't meaning the ones where you put nicotine in, she means fake fags! Never ever get into the others for Heaven's sake as they are simply alternative way of smoking and keep people hooked!
A good idea, CuteAsButtons, I'm all for going on a cruise! :j
£50 from your Exxy, LC 2?!!!!! You mean your ex as in fellar? If so, he's terribly generous!Sue x
