On the plus side, I'm not potting because I'm not spending much to get change :jSPC Member #112 :A Save £2k in 2014 # 160 :money:0 -

That's pretty much what the argument was about. He only told me what was wrong with it once I was in it, so I got out in Asda's car park and said I was getting the bus home and he was like "I can't just leave it in the car park" and I said "well you drive home then if you think it's okay enough, but I don't think it is!"
He was trying to tell me it is safe enough to drive until it's fixed on Tuesday because you can use engine braking. I told him that's all very well as long as things run smoothly, but if some idiot pulls across in front of you quickly or someone runs out into the road etc. you're not going to be able to stop quickly enough...the instant reaction would be to slam the foot down which would do nothing!
He was still trying to convince me it was safe enough and I almost hit him (in public too, I was that angry he was actually considering putting the safety of us and others at risk ). He also said he had to take it to work, even though he works for a company where you can work from home and I told him his boss wouldn't make him drive in if his safety was at risk. Eventually I managed to convince him I was right (as usual) and he's working from home today and tomorrow, just gotta figure out how I'm going to get to work tomorrow morning.

Anyway that wouldn't get you killed would be preferable! You are very right with your arguments though. My daddy would probably do the same as your OH, in fact, i think he has, in a HGV no less! If i was old enough to be there i would have taken the keys from him and told him if he's going to act so irresponsible then he is not fit to drive any more! In an HGV?! A bit of common sense needs to be applied when you're a driver, because it is potentially a weapon you're driving, but not enough people seem to realise this.He is very naughty, and boy did I let him know it that evening
I actually said to him "how would you feel if you had an accident because of this and you woke up in hospital to find out that you'd killed me?" I think that was what helped to convince him actually.SPC '21 #0750 -

Yes a HGV! Worse than a car. This must have been 40/50 years ago but the stories he tells makes me want to never let him in a car again. I am glad your OH listened to you. Also, i guess you could do more damage to your car if you only use engine breaking.Sealed Pot Challenge member #071 VSP #4

I don't blame youI'm so glad he listened too, he should have just let me make my own way home rather than collecting me from work.
