Hi, just wanted to let you know the over paid tax from October - February has been refunded via his new employer in his wages. He has got £506.40 back.
Hopefully as soon as P60 is issued we can send all the paperwork to HMRC to apply for the overpayment from August to September.
I`ll let you know when we get the rest back...
Thanks everyone for all your help and advice.

Who provided the P60? I don't think you should send this to HMRC until you have both P60's (new job and Navy pension) for 2012:13 as they can do nothing without both P60's.

I'm also a little confused as to why you think there is more tax due back, this is an incredibly confusing post but it seems a cumulative tax code was issued to new employer allowing them to make a refund* so what extra do you think is due?
    * don't forget no tax will have been paid the week/month the refund was paid so this equates to extra take home pay just like a "refund"would

P 60 is from new employer (the once since October 2012)

He has always paid the full 20% tax on his Navy pension (its only from this April they are splitting his tax allowance). Didn`t think about this as HMRC never mentioned it when we spoke to them. Do you think we should wait?

Send it off now if you want but nothing can happen without the information from the Navy Pension so you may as well wait for that first. The fact that previous P60's would show 20% tax is irrelevant.

Having re-read this whole thread though I'm even more convinced that you are under a misapprehension about a further tax refund. Your OH has obviously earned enough in the last tax year to pay tax at the basic rate, which was 20%. The late payments he received both had 20% tax deducted, via either the BR or 0T code, so I don't see what more is now due back after the change in tax code was made for his current job.

Thank you, we will wait for the Navy P60.

Going to send the paperwork off when that arrives and see what happens. HMRC did say in January a refund would be approx £700`ish (appreciate he has had tax refunded from new emplopyer) if there are a few pounds due it might buy a bottle of wine! we will always wonder if we don`t try!

That's fair enough - just don't buy a magnum of Dom Perignon in the expectation of getting something extra back!
