Hope I havn`t missed anything, and I hope you can understand it.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the help you are giving me in trying to sort this out.
Sorry been away for a few days.
This merely confuses things more as you seem to have moved some money between job 1 and 2 compared to your early posts!
Anyhow all that really matters is what each company puts on the tax office form P14 (bit like a P60 but each company does one even if you left the job during the year) this is what any refund will be calculated from at the end of the day.
Looking at your figures though I think I know now why more tax could be due back. Normally when tax office issue a new code to an employer they either include the earnings from previous jobs or the new company already has these figures. What looks to have happened here is that job 3 (one he's leaving now) have used the new code but haven't taken into account previous earnings/tax so they only refunded the tax they themselves had deducted, nothing else.
The pay in Feb 2013 was 732.12 but he was given £1226.52.
This is 732.12 plus all the tax previously deducted by this company less £12 (national insurance?)
Will be interested to know what result of tax offices calculation is once you get it.0 -
Thanks for replying, I`m sorry I`m confusing you, I just took all payslips in date order and listed them, forgot that some amounts under job 2 do relate to oustanding overtime etc from job 1.
I think everything is ok for Job 3 upto 5th April 2013, he had tax refunded via his February pay.
I`m just loosing the plot...himself hasn`t a clue so leaves all of this to me. I`ll post any reply I get from the tax office, think I have to leave it to them as I`m getting a bit stressed over this and think I am confusing you all even more.
I`ll post what HMRC reply and then can hopefully go from there. Unless you have any other suggestions as to how I can check this before sending it off (going in post Monday).
Thanks again, really appreciate this.0 -
Hi
Just wondering if anyone had an idea how long it takes HMRC to reply, its just over 3 weeks since we sent all the paperwork to them.
Thanks0 -

Thanks
last thing i saw was approx. 6 weeks for a new tax code to be received when an allowance had been claimed. could be longer for something more complex, perhaps give them a call in a week or so?0 -
Thank you, we will wait a bit longer before ringing them.0

Just wanted to have a moan about my son's tax code.
He worked for J D Wetherspoon for about 6 weeks at age 16, first job. (He has since turned 17) I could rant about the employer but won't! It was later when his P45 arrived that I saw he'd been put on tax code 'T' which was inappropriate as far as I can research, never paid tax before, and sure enough he has been taxed. I would not have been surprised if he'd been on an emergency tax code L till it was sorted out but no idea how they arrived at this code.
Does anyone know whether tax codes are applied by employer or by HMRC?
I am going to phone HMRC to sort it out, but unsure if they will let me discuss my son's tax code or will need to speak with him instead.IAAR/IAAMM/MFTMFAQ/IOA6BH0 -
If someone is old enough to join the army, they are presumably old enough to learn about death and taxes.0

This just goes to prove the necessity for proper financial education in schools. I think it would be better for your son if HE spoke to HMRC even if he does it on handsfree so you can hear too & give him a nudge in the right direction. They will speak to you if he is there & gives the OK. I believe this is not the first time this co have done this, but it is always possible that your son when faced with a P46 to fill in ticked the wrong box. It may well be that it is too soon as they may not have received all the info from the employers but it can do no harm to try.0

Thanks jimmo, according to the tracker we need to wait about another 4 days before contacting them.0
