    Hi,

I'd love to be able to do the full 12k and I know that it's only a bit more but I think I'll be pushing myself too far with that so put me down for 10,000 please! :money:

Scary but exciting! Woohoo :j! Will try to pay the CC off by end of Jan so I can start in earnest then!

Good look to all and thanks for the thread :A!

I'd like to join. I've been a member of MSE for a while, but am abandoning the old me as saving is now a massive priority and none of my friends know I save - does anyone else find it awkward?

A friend came round earlier and gave me some of her (very nice) old clothes saying she'd much rather give them to me than same "tight-wad" who goes to charity shops despite having hundreds in the bank... I felt really embarrassed but we go without a lot to save money and some of my friends really wouldn't understand that. Husband says just to be grateful and not say anything - I did suggest she sell them but she didn't want to.

Anyway enough of that, I'm in for £12,000 :D

I agree with your hubby she doesn't need to know how much money you have in the bank thats your business just smile and accept them, most of our friends know why we're savings and that we plan to build a house and that as a couple we have an aversion to loans and mortgages, but i do think they think we're abit tight when we say we're not getting chinese ect as they think of it as only being £20 but it all add's up.

Thanks quintwins, it just makes me feel terrible, but at the same time I will use the clothes and am gratful because I wouldn't buy them. You're right the £20 here and there do add up and neither mine or DH's jobs are 100% stable so we need to save and get our own house asap.

Am planning to make Not Going Out my New Year's Resolution - not that I really do anyway, but I do let myself get guilted into things :o

Can you put me down for £12,000 but hopefully I'll try and beat this. First month might be lower than normal as I'm picking up my new car in January but hopefully it will accelerate from there.
  • I've been enjoying the 2012 challenge and look forward to doing it again in 2013. Please count me in!
    My saving target is £4000.
A bit more than I'm comfortable with, so I might chicken out and ask for it to be reduced! But I'd rather start with a tougher option to try and save more.
    Thanks:)

  • Hi Slowly fading

Can you sign me up please for £5000
I am retiring at the end of the year and will be seriously need to watch my finances carefully. I am hoping to get some part time work which will all be saved if I do.

I have had to use existing savings to pay off debts etc so am starting from scratch. I hate not having any savings as an emergency and hopefully this challenge will motivate me to keep on track.

Thank you so much for running the thread it is much appreciated.

    Hi there,

I managed 12k in 2012 so I really should signup for the same again, although with any luck I will be spending my savings from 2012 on a house deposit this year and new money will be spent too:)

BUT, I'm still going to aim for 12,000 so sign me up please.

Thanks for setting this up again, and thanks for doing it last year!
