I am on route to doing this too! I've done the Halifax and am applying to First Direct this weekend. Do you know what their direct debit policy is?0 -
I've just opened the First Direct 1st Account which pays £125 after the first 3 months and upon depositing £1500pm. There's a £10 charge per month if you can't reach this figure but if it's anything like the Halifax Reward you can just transfer amounts between accounts until you reach £1500 deposited
I m opting for the Regular Savers account too, 8% for the first year, maximum £300 deposit every month
must have the 1st Account to open the savers.
I'll keep my Halifax Rewards account and move money around my account to pass the £1000 mark to still receive £5 a month
Quids in
You can open an e-saver with First Direct and deposit £1 into it - that also removes the £10 fee (so no need to cycle the £1500 through each month).
I do this for the regular savers.I was a DFW, now I'm a MFW :T0 -

They don't require Direct Debits currently. See my message above for an easy way of circumventing the £1500 per month requirement.I was a DFW, now I'm a MFW :T0 -

Don't you need £1500 minimum for the first 3 months to qualify for the £125 reward? I'm sure I read that somewhere.....£20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**0 -
Hi slowlyfading! Sorry to be a nag, but can you add me to the front sheet? I asked for £12k again
Thank you!I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.0 -

There's a link at the front of this thread where you can add in amounts you save. Don't do it till the end of the month or else you will be running SlowlyFading ragged!
If you want to change it in your signature line, go into User CP and look for Signature on the left, I think.
Good luck saving!
By the way, interview for my second job is this afternoon now...
Hope I get it, but, I know there's plenty of competition out there.
Best wishes all, and keep motivated...

Thanks BBB I think I have figured it out now thanks to your instructions
I've never managed to save anything before, so fingers crossed I wont get tempted to spend it!!
Hope your job interview went well? xStaring debt - June 2013 - £21,000

May I join please? I know I'm a little late but only just seen the thread and something like this will probably keep me on track. I plan to max out my Cash ISA allowance this year, so £5460 I think (unless I've got the wrong years figure).0

I've made my first sales of the year today on eBay, long may it continue!
Just need to keep the momentum going now, have dug out a few more things to sell, just waiting for the next free fees weekend.
Been a very frugal January so far but mainly because I've been poorly so didn't leave the house all weekend and been off work the last 2 days so that makes 4 no spend days..... And because I've been living on tea and toast for the past 4 days most of the Christmas bulge has gone.......result!
Thanks SL.
Very well done - but don't overdo the tea & toast diet!

OK so you have made me break one of my NY Resolutions - not to spend hours on MSE...have already told myself that I need to be more efficient with my time. With the time saved I was going to spend more time cleaning the house, research ways to lose weight later in the year without leaving the sofa(!) sorting out interesting (local) places here in British Columbia to take the children to at weekends, handcraft baby clothes to save money etc etc. I had made the decision to give one update per month on any savings I had made...and just eight days into the year I find myself logging in twice a day, just to see if you had had job success - hurrah - it is good news...so glad for you Hon. You must really have impressed them at the interview! This forum is so addictive! :rotfl:
Well moneysaving things I have done...hmm let's see. Well I have had quite a few no spend days, but that is because I had a c-section two weeks ago and am relying on DH to drive me round. I have a bag full of washable nappies, but am still using the Huggies as the baby is too small to wear the other kind yet and it is very rainy here at the moment, so I can't dry things at the mo...well that is my excuse and I am sticking to it - ha ha. The bfeeding is going well and he is finally gaining weight, so I am saving on v expensive formula costs and nearly all of his clothes have been passed on from friends. Canada is just switching over to Chip and Pin, so the cashpoint rejected my debit card as soon as 2013 rolled in, so I was unable to get any dollars out. Doesn't Life get v boring without any money!
I am very interested in some of the ideas put out there for raising more funds. Unfortunately I haven't come across any surveys that pay cash over here - I think they offer Starbucks vouchers etc instead. One friend suggested that I try and make money from my real passion - knitting, but as I have a big family, I am always trying to keep up with scarves, hats etc to get them through the cold winters here. Also I am a slow knitter!
My life is not interesting enough for me to write about in a blog (anyone want to know how many nappy changes I did overnight?!) but I have managed to do some reading up about making my money work harder for me. Am looking at dividend paying shares at the moment, but my money is so hard earned, I do not want to have any risk involved at all... I really want to take as much of my Mat Leave as possible; I am not in any rush to get back to full-time work at the hospital. Must find ways to save money <sigh>
Have a good week y'all x
Hello Canucksfan
Sorry about helping to break your NYR! Although it was for a positive comment.... Thank you, I did my best, must've been at the right time, at the right place.
I used to live in Canada many years ago, but, had to leave when my family did as I was too young to support myself. Always remember real winters, with dry snow, not the wet stuff we get here; the big, open spaces, dad driving onto the lake ice with his car (it was over 2 feet thick I might add!), hot summers, did I mention space? Sigh.
Hope you heal up quick, the little one makes it worth it...
And don't worry about doing too much all at once.
Take care
