The button is big. It's worth reading the post before hitting it.
Yes, that's the point. As I said, something is wrong with this board.

I can't read every single post to see if they were useful or not. I just was surprised that yesterday's spammer was thanked 5 times and checked the thanked posts. The one in questions certainly wasn't useful in the slightest.

I think you're over-reacting. This thread is excellent, and frankly the only reason that I signed up, and continue to post on, this forum. When somebody is thanked in this thread for their post, it isn't always because they made a useful post to others, but rather posted about something that has recently happened to them financially, like achieving a savings target. I personally see no reason not to use the thanks button for that, because somebody has achieved something. Of course, looking at it from another perspective, when reading about other people achieving savings goals, that can be very motivating to the reader, in making them want to work hard to save money. I think thats why this topic works so well, because in hearing about others doing so well, you too want to do well in saving money. Therefore you could be thanking them for the motivational aspect of their post.

On the whole, this is a very positive thread for people to discuss their savings aspirations and achievements, as well as other areas of their life, and it doesnt need your moaning.

Just my $0.02. Have a nice day :)

Don't worry about grumbler, he's been moaning on £10 a day thread too.

Hoping to add a decent amount this week to the savings account from hosting students. I love that they bring me gifts, this weeks are Italians and they brought pesto, pasta, sauces, meats, the cutest aprons, utensils and tea towels. I dont feel the need to buy myself anything as i now have new things and it's reduced my food bill too :D

Saved £273.20 in July, taking my total to £2058, meaning I have exceeded my target for the year. Now want to go for £3500+ (hopefully £5k) savings in 2013, as this will take me to five figures saved overall , not bad for someone about to turn 18.

Work, birthday and interest payout should make August a great month for savings, hopefully £500-£600 :j, then my first full time pay cheque in September with low expenses could see £1000 saved that month, so changing my target to £5000 for the year.

Late update for June. £81.45 added to ISA but another £500 taken off Overdraft. £500 to go.
Forecast for the rest of the year is still looking at only £5k not the 13 but hey.

Try keeping a diary of what you spend to see where it all goes. Plan menus and just buy what you need for the week, check out the special offers and look at A!di and L!dl as they are cheap. I try to plan ahead with my expenditure and squirrel away things from the sales for xmas pressies. Don't buy anything you don't need!

  • Seems the thread is awful quiet as the year goes on, only gets busy very end/start of month for the updates on progress. Not done one bit of work since last Wednesday so more or less a week off, time to get back at it now and crack on getting some money in from my own jobs before i get paid from employment again on the 2nd of August. Hopefully i can have a frugal but high earning few weeks to finish off July on a positive note!!

  • Just put another £200 away into ISA bringing my running total to £7,100. Still shy of 50% of my target. Have to work harder!

Hard to let the savings grow with kitting out a new house etc - everything just costs so much money!
