Hi again to all
I've been away from this thread for about 6 weeks. Holiday for some of the time, and then just so busy catching up since I got back that I've been delayed in updating my spending spreadsheets and working out the exact amount of my savings. I've been keeping a note of all my spending on the excellent 'Homebudget' app on my phone, but needed to transfer all the data over and work out income & savings. Because I'd quite a few weeks backlog, I kept putting it off.
Truth be known - for the past week I've been distracted by the Tour de France on TV during the day. Great excitment if you enjoy watching cycling, and we're looking good for another British winner. I do get on the exercise bike when they are on the mountain stages - so it's not all couch potato!
I've just briefly caught up on reading the past couple of pages in the thread. Great to hear so many people doing well.
Twiggy sounds like you've really worked out a plan for dealing with your unexpected bill and staying on track. Too many people give up in that sort of circumstance - so well done.
Youngsaver what an uplifting read.
Tara Well done on all your saving.
I've just now sent in my update forms for May & June: .£750.01 saved in May & £741.66 for June.
My savings in the next few months are going to be much less as I have a lot less self-employed work coming in now. This is to do with one of my work streams virtually drying up. But do you know, I'm not too bothered. I'm reassured from detailed tracking of my spending in the past six months that I can live, and still save some, within my current income, and I'm enjoying spending more time with my family.0 -
Quite proud of my OH and I, we should have £1k in the savings by the end of this month
doesn't seem like a lot to some people but we have been rubbish with saving up until now.

Reporting time:) 1,750 for this month...falling behind a little bit, but I had some bills to pay and lost my focus. Hopefully I will be able to put away a little more next month... Good luck everyone, we are entering the home stretch!!I'm trying to remember to pay my future self first!0

Ok well I am up to a total of £1293.24 for the year. May be a few pennies out due to interest on an ISA that I haven't checked.
It's much lower than I originally planned as my target was £5k at the start of the year. But I have also been overpaying my mortgage and paying for our new kitchen which I hadn't initially planned on doing yet.
I am going to alter my target to £3k - still a bit under target but from September onwards I will be able to save a bit more monthly due to finishing paying for the kitchen.Kitchen Debt - 2820/260Save £12k in 2013 #060: 1293.24/3000MFW: 88760.00/85000.00 (4.24% paid)0 -

Thank you for the kind and motivational words Snowgo, I hope you had a good holiday!
I've actually been forced to take a slightly different approach as, unfortunately, the fee free card transfer is no longer available. Instead I've taken the money out of my ISA to cover the expense, but have duly increased my target to reflect this. In some ways I think I prefer this from a psychological viewpoint, as it means that I'm not in as much "debt", but it is disappointing to see my ISA balance lower than it had previously been.On the whole though, I actually think I will be driven better by watching my savings increase again compared to what I would be by watching my credit card debt fall!

After lending money last month(with no idea when I will get it back) I am feeling quite demotivated. Not adding to the savings pot for a month was tough but today I have managed to put a few hundred away and thats made me happy
feeling unbelieveably tired as i haven't had a day off in 5 weeks, have 3 students and my own two LOs to look after as well as a house to run and averaging 5hrs a night sleep. All I can think of is a proverb one of you guys on here posted last month;
"Make hay while the sun shines"
which for me means having as many students as possible while it's peak season.£20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**0 -
