  • I have added some more money to my emergency savings fund taking my overall total to £13,030.
Still have my end of the month bit to add before I update the form. Hoping to add around £1600 on pay day which is May 30th.

Well done! I don't know what e smokes are but if they are a step towards quitting then well done!

Electric cigarette, sort of an alternate rather than quitting. You get the cigarette feeling in your hand, inhale nicotine vapour but non of the tar and other nasty stuff.

I've been on these two and a half weeks now and have not had a REAL cigarette at all. It's funny though, I've technically given up but I'm still smoking.

    Hi everyone,

Managed to put away another £459, taking my 2013 total to £4,809 so far. Working hard to see if I can put squirrel away some more pennies during the course of the month!

Been a bit up and down since renovating house and can be hard to tell what exactly needed to be spent, i put away £800 more than i should have last month, down to £3,290 start of May. about £1400 should be added this month! Aiming for £2,000 for June and same for July that will put me at £8,690 by end of July. Took my target down to £15,000 but even then might be a stretch!! Working flat out just now making great money so long may it continue! Think im even resisting a summer holiday!!

Just had a look at the totals on the spreadsheet...£472,000 saved this year so far by everyone! That is just fantastic and I think we all deserve a pat on the back :T

Have been jiggling my money around again and opened up two more savings accounts to act as direct debits on my Santander current account. Will be saving another £10 into each one every month, which should add to my savings total without me really noticing it. I'm looking forward to the 15th when I get paid and then all my money does the bank account shuffle and moves around my current accounts. Have managed £106 so far this month but looking for another £180 if possible. First Direct may actually give me the £125 for switching this month, which would boost savings a lot.

OH has finally asked me to check all her income and outgoings, so I did that earlier. I found out that in April we spent £428 on groceries  She's never been terribly good at cutting down when it comes to food but it really shocked her to see it in black and white so to speak. It was bad enough when I persuaded her last week to part with her beloved cheese. I gave it to one of the neighbours as it was just sitting in the fridge doing nothing...not that packets of cheese actually do anything, but you get my drift!

So, we have an economy drive in place for the rest of this month. I shall be taking her down to Aldi tomorrow to stock up on essentials for under £30. I may have to take some valium and gird my loins for that particular experience! Her temper isn't particularly even when she's on a budget.

Good luck everyone and keep it up!

Savingswise I am having a bit of a low "moment" :( I have attacked the past 4 months with gusto and now I feel a bit deflated. I have overspent on the cc this month (I'm talking about 80 quid, not thousands!) and I have to lessen my savings this month to cover it. I know I am in a very good position and I have been in far worse places than this but I think I just need a good boot up the backside! I need to stop feeling sorry for myself and remember just how far I have come. Sorry folks :o

    *boots self up backside*

Thank you SF for the update and continued running of this thread. I'm glad I have here to come to when I need some inspiration.

    Keep going everyone :D

Gosh, how well are we doing?! thats a fab amount!

Don't worry about the £80 girlatplay, write it off, draw a line and start again. Just put it down as a treat(even if it wasn't) store how it feels to spend money impulsively in a box locked away in your memory and when youre reaching for the cc, bring out the box, open it up and embrace the feeling. It'll make you put it straight back in your purse, walk out the shop and will leave you feeling very empowered.

£80 statshed away today, hoping to cross the £3k mark at the end of the month.
