Hiya Loz, I've just popped a couple of resolutions on my diary, I don't usually make any but I feel this is a year to challenge myself. I usually completely get not making them though as I feel like I'm just setting myself up for a fall
Glad you enjoyed NY, and fingers crossed re hubby's work. I'm waiting with baited breath to make my first overpayment on debts - I don't dare take any spare funds out of the rental house account yet as we're still waiting for rent (I'll call the agent tomorrow to check what happening here) so I don't dare touch any spare money incase I need to to cover next month's mortgage payment for the property, and I have a £300 bill to pay for work done on the boiler (we've only been blooming renting the house for 2 months  - we have money aside for emergencies already luckily, I wasn't prepared to start renting without that buffer upfront, luckily it would seem!) so I don't know yet if I have any spare there. I have moved money into a sub account on my own current account though, to make overpayments, but with an exhaust that will need replacing and a new battery needed in Mr Shortie's car I don't dare use that money yet to overpay.
Sorry to waffle away on your diary thereApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
waffle away shortie
good job you were sensible with having a buffer.
so this morning i dropped my wheel off as i need a new tyre (yes i know i should of had it done sooner but i am lazy!) £60 cheapest tyre.
Usually (pre LBM) i'd of thought...cripes..how am i going to pay for that...no bother pop it on my credit card. today (although there was that slight feeling), i looked at my accounts, rememebrs i had put £100 extra in my bills account(of which i put £50 on to npower and so still have £50 left! which means..... i will be paying for my tyre...NOT on credit! this makes me feel very happy and like im actually changing my mentality and achieving things. yaygood start to 2013 i feel.
im going to catch up on some other diaries! sorry i've not posted on them much but i am back at work now so can look a bit easierFacing up to things - nov 2012 total 9334.95

Next are apparently really bad for opening accounts even when people don't want them ....
Re your available and actual bank balance ... have you thought of having a separate account for bills etc?
It's honestly fab - I transfer a set amount on payday to cover everything & that's it - I don't need to worry that something won't get paid or I've still something to come off my balance ... everything left in the other account is mine!

Hi LL
You have some great plans. Its good to have something to plan for.
Well done for having some monet put aside for your tyre. I can't wait to have an emergency pot and not be blindsided by unexpected breakdowns.
Fingers crossed for hubbys job. When will you find out?

hi rising.
i have two accounts. oe for housebills (mortgage, water, electric, internet phone, sky, council tax, tv, car ins and cat ins)
then i have the other account which is mine & my wages get paid into that.
on pay day i transfer enoguh to cover all bills and food. then i pay my bills as much as possible (two ccredit cards), mobile dd & loan dd then go out + boiler cover, life ins & other cat ins. not sure why they dont go out of the bill account.
now because of being paid early last month and will eb this month, i've transferred all money out into "savings" so i only have dd money in there...then i just transfer a little bit each week for spends and petrol so trying to keep as much out of my general account and in saving pot as possible.
does that make anysense?!?Facing up to things - nov 2012 total 9334.95

Your plans sound excellent Loz - I like the idea. Oh and well done on cancelling the Next account that you didn't want opened - some peeps would leave it open thinking it can do no, harm but that's how debts can creep up on us, so that was a swift and smart move there
We have a seperate account too Rising for bills etc. When we bought our first house, our IFA suggested we did so to help us budget. He was pretty good really - wasn't just trying to sell the product, he actually gacve us some really good advice that set us up on a good stead. Since day one of our first mortgage, because of that chap we've always had seperate accounts for bills, and for years we had one for food too (though that's now replaced by cash in an envelope)April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
