  • I personally do not believe that Phil is a troll.

I do not know however, whether he always gives us accurate information.

However, what I DO know is that he is a young man in a muddle.

Therefore I will continue to offer advice if I can (whether he choses to take it or not is up to him).

I would want people to help my son if he was in trouble, therefore how can I possibly treat anyone else any differently?

No because people are trying to wind me up and hurt me and are trying to get me to feel even worse about myself and to make my life hell.

god forbid any self reflection, better to blame the rest of the world.

if you are upset, ring the samaritans.
if you want to do better at uni, logoff here and do some work.
if you want annoy people less, stop posting the same thing over and over again.

if this upsets you so much, then logoff and don't read it. it's called a reality check - you are choosing to be a victim, rather than taking charge of the situation. you have had this attitude for months and apparently no one can help you (or you choose not to listen and follow any suggestions).

    GO DO SOME WORK!

What do have to carry on living for? Not much, all my achievements seem behind me, all I have to look forward to is being unemployed with a rubbish degree, stuck at home with my parents in poverty. You might think it is all a bit of laugh but to me being able to post on here is important to me and is an important thing that keeps me going on day to day.

  • Phil, nobody is trying to wind you up.

Most of the people on here are attempting to help you!

Even the big post in red capitals is one you should pay attention to. This poster is also trying to help you.

I don't wish to sound patronising when I say this, but when you've been around in the world just a little longer you'll realise that the world does not revolve around you and that there are people far worse off. You have applied for a few jobs and not got an interview. Some people apply for hundreds! I'm sure you won't have to do that. At the moment just concentrate on getting your degree, THEN look for a job (and without being so picky - look at other places as well as the University), do some voluntary work while you are looking, but most importantly present yourself in a positive light whilst demonstrating WITH HARD EVIDENCE that you have the skills they are looking for. Take advantage of any help offered, whether it be from the University, the Jobcentre, this forum or where ever.

You will get a job eventually and even if it is not one you want to stay in for the next forty years, well it's a start. Remember, most people spend their working life compromising. There are very few people who EVER get their dream job. You usually just have to go with one that is suitable.

I have taken early retirement and STILL don't know what I want to do when I grow up.

How can I do any work because I have got so upset again now that I feel worse than ever?

It is easy to say go change the world to suit me. But I do not see how I can change the realities of stuff like what degree class I will get as it is already so screwed up.

This is the approach I (and others took for a long time). I was reluctant to believe that studentphil was just one big windup, despite what others said. I even defended him when I thought others were being downright nasty.
But now I am much more convinced that it is a windup by more than one person. A number of times I've noticed the tone of posts change quite substantially, much more than I would expect just from a change of mood. They really do read sometimes as if someone else wrote them.
I also find it very hard to believe that a third year philosophy student could write some of the things he writes.

If posting here is all that is important to you and what keeps you going phil you really do need help. First you should see your GP and explain how you are feeling. You really should look into your disability benefits - it is your life and you shouldn't not do something just because your parents disapprove, you are an adult and you really should start thinking for yourself.

You can get help, and your next achievement is getting your degree and then move on to the next stage of your life. You will get help in getting a job through the disabled employment advisor. You can then also move into your own place and get help for that.

You mentioned that you thought that after your degree things would get easier and the weight of the world would lift (or something along those lines) but phil, life is not easy and is not supposed to be easy it is a challenge and there are ups and downs, which by the way everyone has!

Even people who are not disabled have problems and feel things are unfair. You really have to stop using your disability as an excuse. What do you have to keep living for? You have choices and lots of them but you have to work for what you want.
  • Phil, just get on and do the best you can in your degree and then accept the result. People get perfectly good jobs without degrees at all! (In fact, in a lot of jobs, they are far more interested in whether you have GCSE Maths and English than whether you have a 2:1 or a 2:2).

    .

If you are real and this is true, you have to see a counseller. It is the only way I can see that you can sort yourself out. But yet again, I know you won't take any notice

I know people have it a lot harder than me. I see homeless people everytime I go to university and they look as if they have bad drug and drink habits. I know that people are dying of HIV and lack of food world wide.

But somehow that makes it no better when I go to university and everyone seems to be looking at bright futures with job offers and Masters offers and I still feel left behind.

I know they have not made the wrong choice of course and have done this and that that I have not. I have nevertheless battled on and overcome things and yet I feel left behind.
