He's been advised to seek counseling or speak to the Samaritans before (by me and by others). But there is always some excuse why he can't.

Yes I know, I don't think that he genuinly wants any advice this hread is just something to distract him and to sound off his views and interact with people. He never takes advice on board or act upon it. He has been told to talk to the samaritans, go to his GP, get advice on benefits he is entitled (but won't because of his parents' views on them), and a number of other things.

At times he says that he is perfect for a job and he is wonderful, the next he is full of self pity and he is useless. I am beginning to think that he is just attention seeking.

CAN YOU NOT JUST SIT BACK AND RE-READ THIS WHOLE THREAD - AND NOT POST KNEE-JERK 'BE NICE TO ME' REPLIES AND THINK ABOUT IT. JUST SIT AND THINK ABOUT WHY YOU COME ACROSS IN SUCH A WAY THAT YOU WIND EVERYONE UP.

Other people can type, other people can walk right, other people can go up steps without falling over, other people can carry heavy things, but all I seem to be inability and failure and it really gets to you after a bit.

No, I just feel so upset and destressed at the moment. I am just at a stage of just feeling like I am going to blow up.

You just do not know what it is like when you have no where to turn. I can not turn to my parents as I will be a disappointment to them, I can not turn to anyone at university as they just pass the me on, doctors can not help me get better marks or get a job. I am almost paralised by my emotions and there is only limit to how many negative emotions one mind can hold before it gets too much.

It all seems so straight forward for everyone else they apply for jobs and get interviews, get jobs, they sit their exams and get good marks and no matter how much I try, I just always seem to end up with nos and poor marks.

But you're not trying, are you? You're on here all day and have been since summer 2006.

If you were really trying you'd be reading this thread, taking advice from people on here and doing something about it.

Incidentally, what marks have you been getting for the past 2.5 years?

other people are taller than me, other people are better looking then me, other people can write amazing novels, other people can play musical instruments really well, other people can play international sport, other people have good eye sight, other people can sing well, other people can climb Everest....

....other people can work out what they're good at and play to those features. other people don't spent their lives concentrating on their weaknesses

No one can solve my problems I know that. I keep trying and trying to keep going and yet time and time again I get knocked back like not getting an interview.

You keep getting knocked back?? You have no idea, you have only just begun looking for a job - people apply for hundreds of jobs and are still looking! Hello - this is the real world phil!
It all seems so straight forward for everyone else they apply for jobs and get interviews, get jobs, they sit their exams and get good marks and no matter how much I try, I just always seem to end up with nos and poor marks.

SEEMS STRAIGHT FORWARD - how do you really know that it is straightforward for others when they may havegone through rejections themselves, the only difference is that they don't go on about it.
Other people can type, other people can walk right, other people can go up steps without falling over, other people can carry heavy things, but all I seem to be inability and failure and it really gets to you after a bit.

Who cares about other people phil??? That is your problem - what others think, what other get, what others have, it is time you look at what you have and what you can do and stop looking at your DISABILITY and look at your ABILITY! I am disabled and have struggled, looked at things and just thought I can't do that, but I have gone and done it!

You want to type? Go and type - I have a one handed keyboard (there are other things available to help) although I managed to learn on the normal keyboard typing one handed, I sat and passed all the RSA exams in typing and word processing (the highest grade with no concessions because of my disability) from that got a job typing scripts for tv. I could have gone to a typing class and after 10 mins said I can't do this! It takes effort to try things you may see as impossible, but lose the attitude phil and do something about it.

Other people can walk right - I have problems with walking, falling over and carrying heavy things but I don't make a thing of it - there are ways to get round things, ways you can solve problems.

I live alone and manage very well although I have a disability and a chronic illness - there are days I can't get dressed and spend hours lying down because I can't function and my body hurts all over most of the time - I could say that it is not fair because other people have a 'normal' life and can do anything. I rarely leave the house because of my condition, I used to have a life, a good job a social life - then I became ill and had to leave work, my career prospects all gone! ARE YOU FEELING SORRY FOR ME YET PHIL?? I'M NOT!! There are doubts if I will ever be able to work again which are my GP's view also, but I haven't given up - I am trying to do a web design course that may or may not enable me to work from home. There are people worse off!! If you are feeling down watch a comedy! You have actually been very lucky, you have been able to do a degree course, gone to university, there are many that could not!

It is time for you to count your blessings. I would like to see you live on your own and learn how to cope and manage your own life. As I have told you endlessly before, if you have difficulties with your disabilities go to your GP and referred to an occupational therapist.

Your biggest problem is YOU, YOU are the one that is stopping you succeed, only you can make things happen. Stop thinking I can't and start saying I can!

I thought when my degree finished that the weight of the world would be lifted from my shoulders. However, now I am looking at jobs it seems twice as bad.

TOBRUK, I know people like yourself over come huge barriers and do fab.

I have tons of achievements in my life. I have done it against the odds from being someone who my parents were told would not be able to talk, walk, write all those things. That was very crushing on my parents as you can understand. But I can talk and write to some extent, walk, drive, gone to university, passed A levels, GCSEs, swim. I know I have suppassed anything I could have hoped for when I was little and have so much to be proud of.

ENOUGH PHIL If you are really feeling depressed phone the samaritans now! It does seem that when people are firm (but fair) with their comments here and you don't like it you turn on the self pity. Your thread asking for advice has turned into another phil's diary this is phil's world! People have given you plenty of good advice but you won't leave it at that instead you make comments on things you know nothing about.

You were here until gone 11.40pm last night and here you are again - what about your revision??? I have a feeling that in June there will be a phil's thread where you will be asking why they failed you on your finals and you have no degree and ofcourse it will not be your fault as nothing is - the whole world is against you.

People have told you what to do now try and absorb this phil:

    1. Concentrate on your exams and get your degree - do not apply for any jobs, do not look further than your exams.

    2. When your exams are over then go to your job centre and see DISABLED EMPLOYMENT ADVISER, who will help with your options, career, help with job applications and cv etc.

It is that simple - now act on it!

    Excellent advice from TOBRUK.
I would have given this advice to my own son, who is only a few years older than you. PLEASE listen to it and act upon it Phil!
