I am a bit too keen on saying what I think, but that is a bad thing that comes from my subject. I am a bit too keen on standing up for what I see as just. It is a shame there are no trade unions now as I think I would have made a good trade unionist.

    WHAT?????

There are LOADS of trade unions, and they are very prevalent in the public sector.

Log off MSE and do some bloody research before posting any more of this crap.

I think a trade unionist or involved in the railways would be sectors that suit my interests.

There is something really awesome about a train I have always thought.

    Go play with them then!

There are fewer trade unions now is a better comment as many have mergered with each other over the past few years.

So do you think I should give up applying for jobs at universities and look for jobs elsewhere?

Why don't you apply for admin work at a trade union?

EDIT: A few years ago whilst I was temping, I was sent to do admin work at a trade union. It was very slow paced and easy.

i'm sorry, i'm a little confused.......... there have been dozens of threads saying this for months....... you either can't read, or are so stupid that i don't believe your academic background.

i have to say, the lobby thinking you're a trolling-wind-up merchant might have hit the nail on the head

Use that academic head of yours, I know people tell me look more widely that universities, but the question is should I take an and or or (exclusive) method of finding a job. i.e. apply for university jobs and other jobs or other jobs at the exclusion of uni jobs and not apply for uni jobs.

please just think before typing..........you are asking such stupid questions. an accounts job in a uni will be like an accounts job in any big organisation etc etc. you have no idea what you want, you just a nice cushy job straight after graduation with no work. you want people to employ you because you're nice, since you don't have a great degree mark or any experience (or the capacity for independent thought). would you like MSE people to pick the jobs to apply for, fill out the application form and then do the interview for you?

how do you get through the day without someone reminding you to breathe? with your shocking level of understanding posts and ability to miss the point, i can't even see you passing a degree. go do some work and stop bothering everyone.

In my last few months at Uni I panicked like mad looking for my ideal job - believing my first job had to be my career. I got really worked up and stressed out - and began to feel I wasn't worthy etc. In the end I took a job at our local supermarket to give me time and money to find the job I really wanted. Without the pressure of having to find a job I only applied for jobs I was serious about as opposed to panicking and appyling for everything. Eventually I was accepted into the company I work for now doing a fantastic job which I love.

Theres no shame in starting with shop floor or contact centre jobs. As a company we have numerous staff in both jobs and more often than not 'higher' more 'important' jobs are filled internally from these ground roots jobs.
I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler

you have no idea what you want, you just a nice cushy job straight after graduation with no work really you are a victim of your own logic, you could be said to be just playing about doing a research degree and then at the end of it you expect to walk into a good job and you just want a cushy job on the back of your playing about in research.
