Apparently the issuer is TCP Town Centre Parking, if that helps?

I reckon it is Town and City Parking, who monitor quite a lot of ASDA sites up and down the country.

Ignore them, they are just full of empty threats. They don't try court because they know they'd lose and it would (a) cost them money which they won't get back and (b) publicise the fact that their tickets can be ignored.

Possibly, that's just what I've got in my text message. I'll confirm tonight. Thanks!

Whilst I've read that point on here and on the MSE website, is it as easy as that? I wouldn't want a court date coming through my door! Also, would we have any issues going back there in future in that car?

Yes, it is as easy as that - your chances of going to court are miniscule in the extreme esp as its TCP. :)

You won't have problems going back either. :)

It says if we don't pay, we'll suffer legal action.

Having "dealt" with TCP myself (by dealt I mean ignored) I can honestly say the most you will "suffer" is a few meaningless bits of paper through the post.

    Ignore them.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Hope this is putting your mind at rest OP.

Perhaps a couple of extra quid in the poppy jar next time you are in Asda will cover the parking from a moral standpoint too. Nothing at all to stay awake about then! Look forward to the letters should they come.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

    Hi Steven
Afterwards we stopped in town for a little while before returning home and have today received a fine through the post for £70, or £45 if we pay before 5th December. It says if we don't pay, we'll suffer legal action.

If you read carefully through the speculative invoice you have received, you'll be able to spot tell-tale use of terms such as 'may' and 'could result in'. These letters are designed to intimidate people into panicking and paying up before they do what you have done and research their enforceability, or lack thereof.

That is what their entire business model is based upon, because from a legal standpoint, all they can realistically sue for is loss of earnings. I'm sure you can work out how much this would be for an overstay in a free car park.

By any stretch of the imagination, £45 or £70 are unreasonable amounts to pay for a short stay in a supermarket car park. Ignoring them is much cheaper and there are thousands, including myself, who will testify to its efficacy.

  • Just to add, I have reported TCP to DVLA today. Don't be frightened of them.

There is no way that ASDA would ban the car. That would be cutting off their nose to spite their face and could potentially cost them £ thousands in lost turnover. Not a very sound business plan, I think you will agree.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

The only cars Asda ban are those previously flagged up by them as belong to some thieving git.
  • Thanks for all the responses, wasn't expecting so many! I did want to post a copy of the notice on here but I'm not allowed to post images or links because I'm a new user. Does anyone know how many posts I need to be allowed to post images?

    Thanks
    Steven
