They supply their own birthday cake?
Surely that's @rse about face :huh:0 -

REALLY do not want to go to the cash point machine as this will only let me draw £10 and I only need £3.
Ahhhhh I'm having this problem too Steph ..... I've got loads of coin jars going now (£2, 50p and the change from my WSC to the bus fund, 20p) so there is literally nothing left in my purse either ......
Hopefully should get a bit better as once the bus fund reaches it's target, I'll be able to keep what's left from the WSC and hopefully need to visit the cash-line less or reduce the amount I take out!:)Bedsit_Bob wrote: »They supply their own birthday cake?

Well I baked and iced the fairy cakes last night and put lots of pink sparkly things on them.
DD woke up at 5am with a sore throat and a headache. Poor girl, not fun being poorly on your birthday.
Anyway she came downstairs and I have to say the dissapointment at the three presents and a bike was visible:(.
She did'nt say much but later on I heard her telling her brother that she thought he got alot more for his birthday than she has got.
Trouble is that DS birthday happenned before my LBM and I thought that she would'nt notice a difference, but she obviousley did. I now feel like the WORST mother in the world.
I tied a big pink ribbon in her hair and delivered them to school with the pink fairy cakes and had a little cry on my way home.
I am desperately fighting the urge to dash out and buy something else, but I can't as the budget is so tight I can't miss bill payments. I am hoping the inlaws will be over tonight with a present for her and she has four friends coming for lunch on Sunday with presents, so hoping it won't all be too rubbish for her.
I have never had a time that one of my children did'nt get excited over their presents, maybe its because she was'nt feeling that well.
I sat with her and made the Lego stables with her and I think she enjoyed that, I just feel really rubbish.
Off to let the chickens out in the rain now, be back in a while0 -

I don't have kids so I can't completly understand your emotions, but didn't want to read and run. I'm sure in a few days she will be fine and the party will distract her
You've come so far, your willpower sounds outstanding
Sorry this is short but I really should be working - bad me:DDEBT FREE on the 23rd December 2013

You are not a bad mother - go and give yourself a big hug - honestly 3 presents and a bike and she thought that wasn't a lot
You're in a really difficult position as with DH not knowing how tight things really are, it would be really hard to sit down with the kids and explain that things are tight and there might have to be some changes for a while:(
I'm afraid this is one of the reasons I hate consumerism with a vengance - kids just have no idea how much things cost - even if you can afford it, I really don't think you should spend loads as a) if you then can't afford it one year, they don't understand and b) it doesn't teach them about money at all:( all they see is what others have got .... even though those kids parents are probably drowning in debt ....(((hugs)))Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

You are not a bad mum and I echo the comments posted so far.
It probably is because she's feeling poorly and sorry for herself. xx0 -
Thank you so much for your replies, I don't know why I am crying so much. It just felt abit of an anti-climax I suppose.
I know its all my fault, as I have showered them in toys in previous years and now its got to stop there was always going to be the bad first year when they got used to the smaller pile of presents. I just don't want my children to suffer from my mistakes.
Thankfully hubby does'nt comment as he always thought I bought them too many presents anyway, so he is quite happy. He is so much harder hearted than me, he just told me to stop being silly when I told him she seemed down, this morning.
Maybe I have inadvertantly made my children spoilt.:(.
We did have abit of good news yeaterday - Earlier this week I wrote about how a big loft conversion hubby was meant to be doing in January looked like it might fall through, because the guy needed roofing work done first.
Well hubby received a call from him last night, and it sounds like he might be happy for hubby to do the roofing work as well as the loft conversion in January. He has got to go and meet up with him on Saturday, so fingers crossed we have money coming in early next year. :T:T:T:T.
Going to pull myself together now and stop being a ninny. Maybe it is me being sad that my baby is growing up. I can't believe she is 6 .
Thanks for your kind words guys, I don't really have any shoulders to cry on and hubby just thinks I am mental:o.
