You know, I think the lady gets to decide for herself how she wants to look.
Steph - no, I'm not really a DFWB; the debt I'm paying off is the last of my mortgage, and with both of us working it won't take that long, so it didn't feel worth starting one. Not really turning around my life, more just using the site for inspiration to stay on the straight and narrow!MFW diary here. 1 Feb 2017 $229,371 - MFD Feb 2043  aiming for May 2028
14 August 2017 - Refinanced: $220,000

Well, Its been an frustrating 24 hours so far.:(
Hubby emailed the next job he had planned to go to mid January (Loft conversion) yesterday and the chap has come back sounding like it might be cancelled :mad::mad:. His roof is leaking and wants to postpone the loft conversion. Hubby has replied stating he can also repair roofs and could do that before he starts the conversion. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can keep at hold of this job as that was for another solid 2 months and would have gotten us out of the quiet period. Grrrrrrr. I really hate it when you book people in for a job and then when you contact them they have changed their bl**dy minds:(:(.
My money saving and budgeting with all be ruined if he does'nt have any work:(
I spoke with my children last night about what they would prefer to do Theatre to see Aladdin or go to their school disco. They chose the disco , so I have had to turn down the free Aladdin tickets. I was quite sad about that, but guess its their choice.
I was meant to be visiting a friend this morning to swap childrens Christmas present and that is now cancelled as her son is home being sick.
My week is falling apart at the moment.
So, all change, I decided I might take a trip into L1dl to spend my weekly shopping budget. Am hoping I can get the bits I need for this week and also pick up some cheap Christmas goodies to store away.
Feel so sick that hubby might not have any work, just got to hope it sorts itself out somehow. I cancelled the advertising as we could'nt afford it and thought we had lots of work. Just typical isn't it.
Ok rant over. Off to put kettle on;)

Why on earth did you give them the choice?
They are the kids, it's not their decision ..... Sorry .... but if you've been given the option of something free, why on earth would you turn that down & spend money on something else ... very confused!
Pants to the loft conversion & keeping everything crossed the guy gets DH to fix the roof as well - I'd hate having to rely on other people .... he could've at least let you know.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Hi all,
The kids school Christmas disco is only £1 each, and its my daughters birthday on the same day. So I thought I would just let them choose:-
Rubbishy School Disco that only lasts 1 hour
VS
Exciting Aladdin Pantomine where mum would probably give in and buy you sweeties and ice cream and a late night.
The kids just want to go to the disco and run around with their mates. I did'nt understand, and hubby had to tell me to stop trying to pressurise them into going to the Panto, just because I wanted to:o:o:rotfl:.
Saved me loads of money really as I now have no expensive ice creams to buy and no petrol money to get them there, but I would have liked to have gone:(.
Have been watching hubbys business email waiting for a reply from the guy about the job, but no reply yet .
Am off to make my self decent to go to L1dl's. Wish me luck0 -

Well I survived L1dl. There is some very cheap stuff in there. The most noticable was Strong Bread flour @ 59p per bag and Cream Crackers .33p per packet.
I took a calculator round with me and totted it up as I went. I managed to get 5 nice cheeses for Christmas and some bags of pretzels & crisps.
The Veg did'nt seem very good, I got a few bargains, like a big 5kg net bag of onions for £1.99, but most of the other veg looked quite old.
Bill came to £65 and I had 5 big full bags of stuff. Sure that is waaaay more than I would have gotten from anywhere else.
Got told off at the till, because I did'nt understand that I was'nt supposed to pack my bags there, I should have dumped it all back in the trolley and then packed it on the benches behind. Seems like a strange system to me, but it must cut down on staffing the tills I suppose. Oh well, I know now for next time.
So I now have £70 for next weeks shop to get all the rest of my stuff from the Tesco Delivery. Not sure how I am going to do it with that sized budget but we will just have to do without the yummy nibbles.
I felt quite despressed and deflated when I left L1dl. Not sure why as I should have felt good getting stuff cheaper than usual and being in control. but I just felt sad that I could'nt just buy those nice bits and pieces without having to think "No, I need to get the essentials first before I can buy chocolate", and of course I had run out of money by the time I had added up the essentials.
Nevermind, I am just being silly.0 -
Chuckling at you getting told off at the tills
sorry! (Al*di have the same system in case you find one of those to go to as well)
I must say I hate it with a passion and as I've got a really bad joints I struggle to reach the bottom of a trolley once, let alone have to take it out to put back againso I always take one of the small trolleys - which I guess is good as it stops me buying so much!:)
Wonder how many other people do this - as they're losing business!
I also have a huge trolley bag that neatly fits into the small trolley, so if I manage to get stuff sorted on the belt (heavy stuff first etc), I can pack it when it goes back in the trolley & not have to take it out again;)
Re feeling deflated about not having luxuries ..... it does get easier, it's really hard to change our habits and try new things and not automatically buy what we did before ..... it'll be worth it!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
