  • Boring isnt it.

    That's an understatement.

I have to be honest and say, I think all this "everybody wins" mentality is setting them up for a massive fall, when they reach the age for job hunting, dating etc.
  • I think the big secret is keeping the momentum of money saving going. Its really easy to be enthusiastic at first, but as the months creep by and temptation comes round each corner its so hard to not say "Oh stuff it" and buy what you want.
REALY REALLY REALLY want to do it this time. Fingers Crossed.

Oh I know exactly what you mean - I've certainly been there!

Amazing news on possibly being debt free by the end of the year! Good for you! It's certainly a good thing to aim for.

Oh and the pound store is dangerous! I came out with 4 Revlon nail polishes about a month ago (pre-LBM of course) which were totally not necessary. I went today and only bought what I needed, so strangely proud of myself :rotfl:

  • Hello,

I just read your whole diary, I too lose presents (although my house is neither mine nor organised!) and am in debt for the second time mainly due to me being so rubbish with money it would be funny were it not so shameful.

any how, just joined the £2 savers thread, going to join the 20p one too!

    have a good Sunday :) x
    Nevertheless she persisted.

I've been reading your thread. I read the debt diaries now and again when I feel that my spending is going haywire and it makes me pull back. I'm not in debt but I was once and I don't want to go there again.

Anyway, a couple of things I wanted to mention. You said on one post that you shouldn't be using the dishwasher but should be washing up by hand. My husband is a plumber and he says that using the dishwasher is much more economical on water and heating than washing up by hand.

Also, regarding your difficulties shopping, have you thought of getting the Tesco Delivery saver or whatever its called. I have paid £60 for six months and you can have as many deliveries as you like as long as they are over £40. With one delivery a week it works out about £2 something a week which is cheaper than paying the delivery charge or petrol. Just a thought.

The other thing is, I used to be like you. My husband is in the building trade and when we were in debt he could never take any time off because he didn't get paid. I used to feel guilty that he used to work all the time, all year with only a little time off at Christmas. However, now we are debtfree and have some savings he is able to take a little time off when he feels like a break and he has been able to take on a less demanding maintenance job.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel and it doesn't last forever. It felt to us that it would but now we actually have money to do up the house and it feels quite risky to be spending it even though we can afford it. You never really get rid of that edgy feeling that you are spending too much but it still feels very good not to be in debt 3 years on!

    Hi, thanks for posting,

Good news about the dishwasher, I hate washing up. I am still cutting the tablets in half and it seems to be working well. :)

Its nice to hear that you are now out of debt and your poor hubby gets some holidays.

I just have to stick with it as I have always given up in the past. Its only moving house or family thats has gotten us out of debt in the past. This time I have to do it the hard way, chipping at it bit by bit myself ...eeek

I know its daft, no wonder kdis have so many tantrums lately, they probably can't cope with life not being perfect :o
  • Morning all,

Well the house looks like a disaster zone. Christmas decorations strewn everywhere :o. We got half way through the job last night and left it till today.

Heaven only knows how people with tonnes of decorations get on. I don't think we have a massive amount. We only ever decorate the lounge and kitchen.

Got a local lady coming over tomorrow to do my highlights. She apparently only charges £2.50 per pack of foils and I am only having my parting and hairline done with no cut and blowdry. I am hoping this will only be about £20 maximum.

Thankfully MIL is coming over to have hers done as well, thought I would'nt feel so guilty having a small hair do done if she is there as well. More money for the hairdresser.

Hopefully that will banish my roots for the Christmas period without costing me anything like the normal £65 I pay at my hairdressers.

Brother in law was meant to be visiting from London yesterday but never turned up. Hope that means that I don't have to post his childs presents now :(. Hubby says if he did visit us, then we can send the presents back and just send £5 in a card. Would be cheaper than posting the present.

Will call the inlaws at a more decent time to see whats happenning, he always goes to them first.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday. I am making waffles for everyone this morning. Yum yum

    So here goes:-

    [STRIKE]03 Dec = Edmundsons £284.88[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]10 Dec = Littlewooods £370.00[/STRIKE]
    17 Dec = Next £242.00
    17 Dec = Littlewoods £157
    24 Dec = Darch Oil £338.55
24 Dec = Council Tax £378.00 (2 months / trying to catch up)
    24 Dec = Simply yours £31.79
    24 Dec = BT £91.80

Another bill paid this weekend. Have had to add another Littlewoods payment to hopefully keep them happy. Thse are all bills I have to get paid during December to then be able to really start hitting the debt.

Nothing listed for paying next week as its mortgage week and that takes ALL the money :(
  • On the subject of losing presents, I found a bag of 4 items of clothes in my present cupboard this year that I had obviously bought to give as gifts last year and then completely forgotten about! As they were clothes for a child they were no longer the right size, and well out of date on the receipt to get a refund. I sold them as a bundle on eb@y last week and made £21 :D.

This then went towards presents for this year, so it's not all bad, but I still can't believe I forgot about them.

Also, when DH went shopping last week when I was poorly, he bought Tesc0 value dishwasher tabs for £1.82 for 30 as they were 'worth a try. I'll be honest I thought he'd just wasted £1.82, but I've been pleasantly surprised. They seem to work as good as the big brand ones!
    Debts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j
