I use Poundland washing up liquid.
1.3L for £1.
That's 77p a Litre, compared to Tesco Daisy Washing Up Liquid @ £1-18 a Litre.0 -
Hi there..thanks for the tip about the Value tablets folks, although I tend to stock up whenever there is an offer so always depends. I am NOT brand loyal on household cleaning stuff
Sorry to hear that the LW bill is putting you off your stride Steph but yes figure decent sized payments will help deter them sending off to a debt collector but would let them know when the second payment will be coming along.
Have realised that have enough presents for everyone so am STOPPING BUYING..great feeling. never been this organised or MSE before.
Kids have 9 presents each from FC..some are books, Body Shop stuff, travel towel etc and 5 from me and OH..they range from horse riding lessons (which whilst pricey I would have probably bought next year anyway) to a set of pens. So varied and much less money spent than in previous years...am getting there. Not a huge pillow case full but I think they will like them.
Am sure you will have a great Xmas Steph

AAAAAARGH Blo*dy hairdresser charged me £60 :eek::mad::eek::mad::eek:.
She did my half a head highlights, and I said after she had washed it off, "Don't worry about a cut and blowdry as I haven't long had it trimmed".
So she said "Ok but let me dry it for you, I hate to leave you to dry it yourself". Thinking that as I kind of know her through other friends that it was just her being nice.:mad::mad::mad:. Then she asked for £60, thats only £5 cheaper than my usual hairdresser but using my shampoo, conditioner, water and electric.:(:(:(. ( and I made her 3 coffee's!!!!!!)
Got to try to re-jig my finances. I know to some people an extra £20 isn't anything they would think about, but I have this month worked out to the last 20p. So its a big deal. Grrrrrr.
Ruined my day now, and I still have to go up to my sons little Rainforest shop at school at 3pm and buy some of the things he has made during term.
It seems like no matter how hard I try to keep a hold of my money, everyone wants it. Maybe I should'nt have had my hair done, but it was due to have been done over a month ago and my roots were soooo bad.
Off to sulk now:(

Morning all,
Hope you are all well. Well had an expensive day yesterday as it cost me £8 at DS school as well. Nevermind.
I had a stroke of luck and have been offered a weeks work next week, not sure what the wage is but even if its only £6 ph I could earn about £180, which would be a REAL help to cover these accidental extras that keep cropping up.
Its quite physical labour so will probably kill me, but definatly worth it. :T.
Ooooh also had a stroke of luck and some dear friends have given me 5 tickets to see the Aladdin Panto in our local theatre :T:T:T:T. We never get freebies, I am soooo chuffed. I had to REALLY hold my tongue to not promise to buy them something as a thank you.
I have been overly generous in my past, which is part of my spending/debt problems and have never been given something back for the gift I gave out, so I controlled myself, as even though its great getting free tickets, I don't want it to end up costing me a fortune.
Got my little ones Nativity play to watch today so should be a lovely afternoon. also I am visiting my Bestie Friend tonight to swap pressies for our children, so should be a lovely day.
Hope you all have a good day planned.

:j Great news:T Sure everyone will have a lovely time!
If you do still feel the need to buy a thank you present (I would too!) - it doesn't need to be uba-expensive - a bottle of wine is perfectly acceptable & usually much appreciated by the recipient!:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Morning Rising,
She told me maximum of £40 but think that was just the colour. Tried to get out of the blow dry but she wouldnt have it. Obviously so she could charge me another £20 .
Its my fault for not being clearer with her, but I was too ashamed to penny pinch in front of her. I just never dreamt that a mobile hairdresser would almost charge more than my normal salon.:o.
Regarding a thank you present, you are probably right, I ought to give them something. I have a spare bottle of homemade Sloe gin so will take that. At least its something I already have instead of having to spend money.

Steph I'm quite new here but I like you - you write so well, and so unpityingly and I'm all sorts of sympathetic to your situation. Can I be nosy and ask - do you work for a wage generally? Because your SOA puts most of the salary against you, but it sounds like your partner is the main breadwinner but his wage varies because of his job. I'm just wondering if there's room to increase your take-home, or if it's a set salary?
Also, someone said upthread, I didn't keep track of who, sorry, that finances are like a juggernaut and take ages to turn around but pick up speed once you have. I love that. Thank you, whoever you are, that's helped me no end this week.MFW diary here. 1 Feb 2017 $229,371 - MFD Feb 2043  aiming for May 2028

Hi ArmchairExpert and welcome to MSE.
I might have allocated the wage to the wrong person in my SOA.
hubby is the main and only wage earner. He is self employed, and when its good its REALLY good, but then he does have the odd few weeks here and there when there is nothing.
All I get is the Childrens Tax Credit and Child Benefit.
We live on a small farm so I stay home to keep house, tend animals, work veg plot etc etc.
I also do hubbys accounts and more as a tax dodge really (eeek) I use up my tax allowance against his accounts, but I never see any money.
The weeks work I have next week is kind of un-official and on another farm but its only on the run up to Christmas and no chance of anything else until maybe next Christmas. So am just going to grab it while I can.
I do feel like I ought to get a job - I only save hubby £1000 by working for him, if I could get a job in the mornings so I could do half a days work and then the farm the other half then that might work.
My only stumbling block is no family to help with childcare, during holidays etc. Will have to think about it some more.
I also love that quote about the juggernaut. It is soooo true.
I think it takes 3 times longer to get out of the debt than it does to get in it.
I am loving doing my spreadsheet at the moment, Everyday I balance it off against my bank account (when normally I would be too scared to look). I am currently forecasting to the end of February, and if I manage to stick within my budget we will have killed off half of the overdraft which really spurs me to keep going.
Will you be starting a Diary ArmchairExpert?. Let me know if you do and I will come and check it out.
Have a great day xxx0 -

Well that was bad business-ship (if that's even a word:rotfl:) by her, because it doesn't sound like you'll use her again. I have a home hairdresser, who is great and charges about half what he costs at the salon (he doesn't usually poach clients, but we did a little skills swop a few years ago and now I just go straight to him).
Good news about the extra work too!armchairexpert wrote: »Also, someone said upthread, I didn't keep track of who, sorry, that finances are like a juggernaut and take ages to turn around but pick up speed once you have. I love that. Thank you, whoever you are, that's helped me no end this week.
That was me. Hi Armchairexpert :hello: welcome! Glad my little analogy helped you. I find it really useful to bear in mind especially in the first few months where it feels like you're trying very hard (which you are!) and getting nowhere.Total debt: [STRIKE]£9473.62[/STRIKE] £7,384.87 22% PAIDTAF #25 NSD 8/12 | Food £43.45/£50 | eBay 0/20 | Exercise 5/18:T Proud to be Dealing with my Debt :TDFD: June 20150
