Its rubbish, according to the site I live within a 5 mile radius of Blackburn,Salford, Manchester etc, I dont, Im about 200 miles away!
  • Krok I have copied your draft letter for the future incase it is needed. Thanks,

I informed the jobcentre that I was not signing up to Universal jobmatch until i was forced to. The woman on the other side of the desk was not best pleased when I told her that it was against the Date Protection Act to ask me for my email address so that they can access my Universal Jobmatch account.

For those who said that you no longer have to go and sign on well I was told that you will still need to attend the Jobcentre to sign on.

Don't the staff working at the Jobcentre realise that the government are trying to get rid of their jobs. Why are they allowing this? You think they would be the first to protest as their jobs will be gone if everything is done online.

    Jokinglyso

You would have thought so. However many JCP staff have been there decades and many relish the thought of a decent redundency package.
Don't forget that a requirement of working for the JCP is a frontal labotomy - they're sleep walking to redundency.

Reminds me of the Neil Innes song 'How sweet to be an idiot'

Well im off to sign on in one hour, taking with me the signed letter if i get a load of grief. I have applied for 26 jobs in past 2 weeks so i will see what they say.
Noticed one job on the site which was for only 4 hours work for just one day period. They are having a laugh. I think its time to stand up for ourselves now. I am doing everything i can to find work and dont want to spend my time going through pointless so called jobs on the jobmatch site.
Will keep you informed what they say.lol

Well I don't sign on but I've always followed my local JCP on Twitter, in the past they have always posted jobs that have appeared on the old Direct Gov website. Suddenly they don't seem to link to Universal Jobfarce site and instead seem to be linking to any other job site they can think of!

@dudleyjcp on Twiiter as I'm not allowed to post links being a new user.

Obviously a glowing endorsement from Dudley JCP then ;) :T

Can you not apply for jobs then unless you register first?

Thats correct. If you register, then click on a job and dont apply for it, they want a reason and any one those reasons can easily get you sanctioned. Its a farce. I was told I had to register to it but do not have to use it, how does that make sense? In no way does it help.

Well ive had a interesting day. Went to sign on and first thing asked was if i had registered for universal jobmatch. I said yes and have applied for numerous jobs on the site. Oh said the adviser, then i can access it to confirm it. No i said , i have not given my permission for my personal details to be given to a third party.
I then gave her photocopies of all jobs applied for on universal jobmatch. Oh thankyou she said and then called over a superviser. She said you have joined the site but refuse to give DWP access to your data is that correct. Yes i said. She then said i will have to register that. Okay i said but here is a letter that i have drafted to the jobcentre why i have not given permission to give up my personal data to the DWP. Oh she said when reading it i shall have to call the manager. The manager was called and read the letter. With a dropped face he said i could go now and see me in 2 weeks. ( do i need permission to leave now. )
I left and then at 5-0 clock i had a phone call from the job centre. She explained that she had read my letter and then confirmed that there was no commitment for any jobseeker to sign away their rights as long as you have registered on the site.
So I suggest to anyone who doesent want to be snooped on to join universal jobmatch but do not tick that box giving your rights away. When you apply for jobs just photocopy and you will be in your rights.

    Krok.

The bit in bold - Absolute rubbish I'm afraid.

They are fully aware (at least round here) that it does not pick up every job that you apply for on it, they know it is a bug, it HAS been flagged up, by the JCP staff, to be fixed

If thats what you believe then fair enough but Im just going by what Ive read from other job seekers about them being referred to a decision maker after giving reasons for not applying on UJ.
