Universal Job Match - What A Farce!!

  • I've not seen any documentation that unambiguously states JSA claimants have to register, use the site, post profile CV etc.

All I have seen that if claimants do not then advisers may direct claimants to do so if it is deemed that not to do so would substantantially hinder that claimants ability to seek / secure employment.

Even then if the direction were not followed and it was sent to a Decision Maker it would need specific evidence to prove that for the JSA claim to be disallowed.

e,g. if claimant had been signing for 6mths, there were numerous local vacancies the claimant could have applied for etc

HOWEVER The direction can only be to register onto that site, not to use, to provide evidence that it has been used or to allow JCP staff access to the site.

Just roll with the punches and register and then carry on as before if you want.

Sure. in the future, there could well be advantages - like not needing to attend JCP if JCP staff can see you are actively seeking employment. Permission for JCP staff to view the claimant's UJM site can be revoked by the claimant at any time.

UJM has to be seen to succeed and success will be viewed as the level of registrations. Therefore there is such pressure from JCP mgt on frontline staff to get registrations and the use of threatening language.

All linked to the Digital Agenda, Universal Credit and the need for as many clamants to be on line as possible.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

And this will be used for IDS to be able to go to the media, eclaiming that the Universal Jobmatch is a success and XXX amount of jobseekers have signed up (omitting the fact that they were directed to do so)

    EXACTLY

However I have a great deal of time for IDS. I saw his performance on the Andrew Marr show some Sundays ago and he did come across as a man with a mission to improve the lot of his fellow man. As much as amy senior politician can be, he struck me as honourable. He is unique as a Welfare Minister to try and seriously unravel the mess that is welfare benefits and try and tackle the principal inequities, particularly where one can receive more on benefits than work. No system dealing with such complex problems can ever be 100% perfect there will always be flaws.

Do not necessarily link IDS with JCP managerial decisions. I expect that he and his dept in consultation with JCP will have put together the plans for UJM and Universal Credit etc. How it is implemented within JCP will, I expect, have been the decision of JCP senior mgt.

Of course as posted elsewhere UJM is a watered down version of what is in the States. Prepare for more demands if the Govt gets a popular mandate at the next general election.

On the other hand as a country we do have to do something about the welfare bill. I can only see it increasing as the economy flat-lines, less tax revenue is being collected than was anticipated and due to as many jobs being still lost as created the benefit bill will continue to increase, especially as if the lib Dems give another 8% increase to benefits.

Sorry I don't have any easy answers to any side of the equation.

The big question is, will UJM help get unemployment down, or just lead to DWP/government thinking a load of frenetic internet activity is helpful & a success ?

Everyone will be told to sign up and create or upload a CV within the next week or so. If people can't use a computer or don't have access, they will be sent for training and instructed to use libraries or outreach centres; or the DWP computers....there is no escape from Universal Jobmatch!
have fun on the DWP computers, they use some hp version of Linux OS. I just showed staff how to access a word document.
I did this because she was polite. In fact every one I saw that day was polite which is odd, must be a new brand of coffee.

I have one way of cutting costs, cutting the amount of paper work they send you. I got sanctioned a few weeks ago, I got one envelope telling me that there has been a change in my claim a few days later another saying pretty much the same thing only addition is that I have been sanctioned and the next day one more telling me the dates the sanction is for. this is before I appeal as they have not told me what I did for this sanction.

one letter is all that is needed this should include the dades I have been sactioned and why I have been sanctioned no need to pad out three envelopes with bull$h!t

    John

The answer is 'of course not'. UJM fundementally changes nothing. It's just another tool for jobseekers to use, and hardly cutting edge at that.

UJM will not create more jobs, it will not provide a boost to the economy, it will not encourage exports, it will not encourage entrepreneurship.

It does not train jobseekers on how to sell more effectively. Yeah great jobseekers can post their CV on line. If a jobseeker has a poor 'analogue' CV then he / she will have a poor digital CV. If jobseekers are not selling effectively then employers will not be buying. That's why it's caled a 'Job Market'.
  • UJM isnt even ran owned or controlled by the DWP, its ran owned and controlled by Monster jobs, an american privately owned company.

and what if they cant get on a computer in the library because they are all taken? this is a very real possibility. i know my local library is always very busy as it is. if you force every unemployed person to attend there regularly it will be a nightmare. what about periods when the library is closed?
where are these computer courses that have room for every unemployed person in the area? who is going to pay for them? what if you dont pass the course?
