Anything regarding financially struggling shouldn't relate to relationship status.

Agreed - and on the DFW boards, there are quite a few singles who post - and there's even a dedicated thread for those long timers .... https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4203267
and ....... yes we do moan about the unfairness of benefits & not being able to get tuition fees paid / free insulation * / cost of dating sites etc:D

    * why should my house not be warm & I be able to save on my heating bills just 'cos I'm single .... I probably have less disposable income than every couple living in the bloomin' village but because I don't get WTC (ie have no kids), I can't get it!

:o touchy subject - sorry - I'm in a wee group of 6 houses and all the others have just had their loft insulation redone / topped up free because they all get benefits of some sort.

What is a singleton? Hardly common language.

A child born alone (so is this an only child thread)

A playing card when only to one of a kind (so is this a gambling thread)

Valerie? Ahhh Valerie. We remember you (can it be a Valerie appreciation thread)

  • I'm single and very happy with this status:)

I think that there are particular issues with being single however there were already dedicated threads on the previous boards to help those who are single...I liked this and subscribed to the ones that were of interest to me so I really can't see the need for yet another board.

I suppose only time will tell as to whether this is a good move or not;)

This year I will have something that resembles a garden and not a building site!
  • I'm really not keen on this either. Mainly because all the other sub-boards seem to have been kept under mums/ dads/ grannies - I would never think to look under that for pet care or beauty! If it needed changing why not just call it relationships and then put sub-boards for the different flavours?

MSE I do hope you have a plan and it's all going to turn out better in the end...

You don't have to have children to get working tax credits!

I don't see what tuition fees and insulation has to do with being single. That's due to personal finances, being in a couple may make no difference

Why can't you get tuition fees paid for (for what???) due to being single?

Really? That's what I was told by our benefits office - must go & check again!

Agreed to a certain point - the insulation was dependent on you receiving a benefit (any benefit - so any single person or couple with kids would qualify & any others that get benefits) but childless single people (sorry just hate the word "singletons") and childless couples miss out if they don't get any benefits.

Why should people be able to make savings on their bills / have a warm house because they get benefits but others be left to be cold / have high bills (if they can actually afford to have on the heating) because they don't.

If there is another wage earner in the household, it is likely to be more workable for one to have a reduced wage for a short period of time ..... when you're single & your budget does just cover all your outgoings, then you can't afford to take any cut in wages for even a few months.

If I went FT then I'd get them paid - but how on earth am I supposed to pay my mortgage / bills while I do so?

Wow - nothing like making me feel like a social pariah MSE - a dedicated board for us singletons, what are we going to discuss - don't we have the same issues as parents/pet owners/families. I'm sure there are singletons who are parents or grandparents - and pet owners!

What an utterly stupid way of breaking up the families board - I use this site really just to browse in some downtime, as someone posted previously, just because we are single doesn't mean that we have relationship experience that we can't share.

I'm rather disappointed by the changes since the site was sold.

So this is all a bit odd. Feeling a tad singled out (pun intended).
