I did. Several times. And as the only mention of children was under "part time residents" (what? outside school hours perhaps) concluded that single parents with children at home got included as "other". Hardly welcoming or inclusive. If you don't think something then don't write in such a way as to imply you do.

And having read that I think I must point out that you hold a lot of value on this forum, you have knowledge of a lot of subjects and you're happy to help. Keep it up :D

You could just ask why I wrote that instead of leaping to erroneous conclusions! As stated I do accept it was clumsily worded :o part time was meant to encompass a variety of arrangements including singleton parents with kids away at university for part of the year, separated fathers and mothers who share care in some way be that 50/50 or 90/10. I was trying not to leave absent parents out, some of whom do everything to maintain that family bond and family environment (whilst still being a singleton! :p).

If you didn't feel that was appropriate there was both 'immediate family' and 'other'. There was no clear option for single parents who have their children 100% of the time, no other parent on the scene at all, oops.

    And thanks. :)

I see there's now a sub-board for Mums and one for Dads.

What do the mods do about moving a thread where it isn't necessarily clear which gender a parent may be?!
  • It's all a tad tedious now.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

er - so many threads have been moved from 'Mums'! why did they put them there in the first place?
I suspect they want the new Mums and Dads threads to be purely 'Moneysaving' judging by what remains!
well, we shall see just how popular they are wont we?

Just noticed there is a now a board for "mums" and a board for "dads". It just feels like they're making changes for the sake of it now, after a lot of back-pedalling. Weird.
  • Not convinced the Dads board will work, either - most of the men who post things relating to kids are either relating to child contact/maintenance (there's a board for that already) or are specifically doing it where they know there are lots of women who might be able to answer their questions.

Meh. You can categorise things too specifically, and I think this is one of those examples.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • Why split mums/dads boards now? I just don't follow the logic of any of it??

It seems a bit weird the way that they're doing this.

For example, I chose to have a gander in the mum's section. I'm not female, I'm not a parent but I had a look anyway. One thread that has been moved there is about buying a tablet for a child. This doesn't seem to be the best place for that thread. It could be on the techie forum, or it could remain on this forum. I'm not saying that there are no women out there who couldn't possibly understand the intricacies of technological maguffery (the current head of our work's tech dept is a woman, after all) but if you're wanting as many opinions as possible on such a matter, which would be ideal I'd think, why limit exposure to the topic by placing it somewhere the men won't likely be seeing it?

I'm quite technical minded so I could possibly offer advice on said purchase but as I say, I'm not a mum, so I shouldn't be looking on that board.
