But the benefits are due to finances/children not being single itself!

Distance learning, well it depends what you do.Distance degree courses you get student loans for now.

If I ever blamed anything in my life on being single I'd shoot myself

Nobody is blaming, we're irked at times but that's as far as it goes.

You are right though, it's about being childfree (not necessarily finances as once you bring a child or children into the equation the finance issue becomes one purely of being single), not single. Loads of us on here are single and child free and there really is a big divide financially in that status to those of the single with children. Bringing in maintenance issue both receiving and the giving of takes it into a whole other realm of course.....

I've always considered myself single even if I'm in a non cohabiting relationship. Maybe that's cos I live by way of the box ticker. Single, married or cohabiting. I have no status at all on Facebook .

Can't you be both? I read the boards not as being "all singles must only post here" and "all couples must only post here" but rather "issues related to coupledom here" and "issues related to the single life here".
Yes but where do "issues related to friendships" and "issues related to work colleagues" go?
Both these subjects turned up regularly under "relationships" along with difficulties with parents (posted by adult offspring) and with siblings.
All got replies from partnered and single posters.

As long as the thread title was clear it was easy to scroll past the ones you had no interest in.

Actually I don't have a problem with there being a thread for those living alone - we do have our own queries - but why not just set up an extra board.

Jeez, all they had to do is put all the pregnancy related stuff in a sub-section of Health, beauty etc. I can't see the need to separate parents, couples and singletons (oh how I hate that term) into their own categories.

There are many single people who have been parents, there are many single people who have been part of a couple, all couples have been single, all parents have been single and couples. There are single people who would like to be part of a couple, there are single people who would like to be parents, there are people in couple who would like to be single, there are couples who would like to be parents. Surely there's no need to segregate all of these people into their own little communities?

Sorry, I'm intruding, I'll go back to my own designated board now.

I don't like it one bit. Don't remember anyone asking or considering us. No poll done.
I suppose that if you are single you cannot have opinion on relationships. If you have no kids you cannot have opinion on not having them. Or if you do have kids, you cannot have opinion on someone without them or their trouble!! You just have no idea, no experience and therefore nothing to do there!
    How ridiculous.

Don't worry - soon you will be targeted and they will have you signed up on a free dating trial before you know it. ;)

Ha ha then they'll be on another loser, bearing in mind my age (oh, perhaps I should be exiled to the Over 50's board?), health issues (Disability and Dosh?) and financial situation (Freebies? Competitions? Grabbit? Charities?).
Help! Where is the completely confused head-bangers board?!

Just a pity the whole unnecessary incident happened at all. Common sense had to prevail, good that it was sooner rather than later :D
