But this week I walked into a KS1 classroom which has a display about festivals involving lights - including.... Bon Fire Night! I thought bonfire was 1 word - it certainly was when I went to school...
That would be the French celebration?
But seriously...
bonfire is actually a corruption of Bone Fire which was what was burnt on them ...
so 'bonfire' features in the spelling lists of compound words! Much to the consternation of those who are not aware of its origin!;)
This is the result of taking the eye off the spelling ball...so we have teachers who do not have the benefit of having learned spellings and spelling rules.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Your on a roll.
ONLY KIDDING! I know it's UR, lol.
Btw have spoken to my mil tonight, and I must have mentioned my dilemma about how many hours I work after DS starts school, as she has said I shouldn't worry about the money, they will see me right :A bless them! I've told them there's no problem, and that I've decided to stay at 3 days at least until DD is 4. She said they were concerned about me taking on too much. How lovely is that? Anyway, they are happy that I won't be "forced" back to full time for the money just yet, and said they only want me to increase my hours for the career aspect, and there's plenty of time for that when both the tots are in school (not till 2015 for DD ). So we are all in agreement, and nobody is stressing about money, and they don't need to worry about me worrying. Lol. They are good to me :ABossymoo
Away with the fairies :beer:0 -
I have two pet hates...
Brought...instead of Bought,
Draws...instead of Drawers.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed at these things :T0 -

Time to venture in the main bathroom ..........and remind myself I need to keep my blood pressure low, and committing murder will only result in more cleaning :rotfl::eek::rotfl:
DD2 is very very lucky to still be breathing - the shower screen in the main bathroom hadn't been rinsed and sprayed with Shower Spray and was starting to dry with all scummy water stains - got my trug out and worked on it quickly like a mad woman :mad::mad: - got it back to pristine standard of yesterday within 20 minutes
Went into my ensuite to find BLUE hairdye on DS plastic nappy bin - and blue flecks burned into the sink, grout and shower tray (obviously from combing her hair through) - DD2 came in and gave a cursory wipe but it wouldn't come off :mad::mad: Cue the trug AND wire wool soap pads - 1 hour later, it was a good as I could get, but in the cold light of day, I suspect I am still going to see blue marks.
Come out of my room to see DD2 in her room colouring her new fake blonde hair extensions matching blue with "Sh@rpie" permanent markets with DS sitting next to her drawing with multicoloured "Sh@rpies" all over his arms, T shirt and Jeans :eek::mad::eek::mad:
If I had opened my mouth the air would have been as blue as DD2's hair, I just managed to growl "I have a dedicated pen bucket downstairs to stop THIS from happening" while pulling DS clothes off of him......rubbed him up and down with baby lotion and baby wipes, but I think he will have to wait for the skin to wear off as the stains are still visible.
I have spent over an hour blotting and using so many different stain removers on the shirt and jeans, and the stains are still really obvious - soaking overnight in Biot£x overnight- if they cannot be salvaged after that, I will have to give up and assign them as "play clothes"
I will be glad to pack her off to Uni in September - I will not be going to clean her bathroom after hair dying sessions:p:p:p.....she can either clean up after herself or loose her security deposits for it.
But as a precaution, I think I will go to chemist tomorrow and get some perm lotion in the bathroom cupboard in case of "bleeding" the first time she washes her hair after colouring tonight.
Time to catch up on Celebrity then bed :rotfl: although sleep may or may not be a featureThe cold never bothered me anyway0 -

I know that the origin of bonfire is two words - but Christmas on the display is one word not two and Diwali was correct on the display too. (Given that it was about celebrations and lights i was also surprised that Hannukah was not up there!)
But given the experience with apostrophe i shouldn't be surprised..... all my kids were sent home with the same spelling lists when in Yr3/4 - despite me pointing out the mistakes on them...:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
Have we moved to a new thread, as I cannot find you all, help!!
Anyway
Daily stuff done
Moved my running machine as it is not being used, so I have to fall over it and make sure I get on it, as I am putting weight back on, can I cannot have that as the nurse will put me back on Type 2 tablets!!
Next thing my dishwasher, after 25 years had died, it will cost £150 or so to put right and may not last for 6 months, so I am thinking of a new one, stand alone, ie not fixed into the slot the current one is in, and big enough for 2 to 4 people / place settings, so what would you all recommend / do you have / don't touch with a barge pole as yours has given you nothing but trouble.
This one is / was a neff and has been great over the years, but I know there are newer / modern / enery efficient ones out there. I have no idea of price, but I do have my eby / car booting money from this year stashed away.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles
