I'm in tears I'll admit it. I think you did a very brave and lovely thing for your four legged family member. I hope I can be as strong when eventually the time comes.0

Oh dear Lord. How I feel for you. Been there myself and it's the worst pain.
But your little one is running free now. That's all that really matters to us.
Sending you all good wishes.0 -
Hope you are doing ok
Its a week today that my Sasha was PTS so I know how you are feeling.
I have to be honest this is the worst pain I have ever experienced I have lost family and friends in the past but nothing compares to the pain of losing my fur baby.0 -
As so many of you were very kind when we had to put our dog to sleep before Christmas, and took the the time to post good wishes etc. I thought you might like to hear that we have decided to take in another rescue dog. At the time we thought never again, then perhaps some months after Christmas. Well fate karma or whatever has led us to a beutiful border collie, 2 yrs old male, well trained, good natured etc. My daughter already has a dog and prior to the demise of our pet, had taken in this collie from a friend who was going to try to rehome via shelter. My daughter knew the dog well, and couldn't bear the thought of it going to strangers. Anyway long story short, over the weeks suggestions were made as to us taking him, and I was adamant he was too big, too energetic etc etc. But my husband (unusually for him) had quietly taken to him, but didn't push the issue. My 4 yr old grand-daughter then said to to me the other day, Nanny you're very sad since your wee dog went to heaven, I will let you have one of my dogs. Tweet (what a name!!) is lovely and good, won't jump up on you, and will just lick you. I know Granda loves him. Now what could I say to that? She is right, he is gentle, used to her being about, doesn't run off, can't fit under the gate to escape, and is fit and healthy. So now the groomer is coming to tidy him up, he will visit daily for the next week or two and then move in. Mind you he doesn't have far to move, just from next door! However, today was the first he was in our house, and came straight over to me, and lay his snout on my hand, gazing up at me. I have missed having a dog about, for the company and the security also. So here we go again. Never say never!!0

Fabulous news! I wish you and Tweet many happy years together.
I was the same as you, lost our dog, said never agin, well not for a long while anyway, and after a few weeks I was going crazy without one.
It was so horrible to have no reason to leave the house.
I'm sure he will settle with you very quickly and be very much loved.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
Hope you have many happy years together - and your OH will have to take Tweet on long walks to use his energy up (Tweets, not the old mans
)
The longest we went without a dog was 7 weeks - that was after a "never again" too. House was clean, non smelly, non hairy, but so damn quiet and lonely and then we had a desperate phone call for a little disabled pup and that was it - off we went again.0
