Hi could someone please gibe me some advice.
My partner had a argos store card. They offered him CPP to protect all the cards in his wallet and since he had recently lost his wallet and didn't want to mess about if it happened agian he said yes. The argos sales woman said it was a 12 month policy for £36.99 that he would have to send all the details of his cards and no payment would be taken before then so my partner agreed. He didn not have chance to send his details when the payment was taken. He never sent his card details either. (So they took it withoutp any card details so what was CPP protecting?).
He was then made redundant so payed off the outstanding balance on the argos card for purchaces and thought that was that. A few months later (about 13 months after he signed up) he recieved a statement letter from argos saying he owed another £36.99 for CPP, plus there was late payment charges from Argos.... so he phoned them saying he never wanted the CPP this year and never agreed for the payment to be taken. They said it was a rolling contract and you are autamaticcaly signed up each year. He said he wanted the money refunding as he didnt agree to it and they said there was nothing they could do. The debt spiraled from there (because of the CPP - no credit purchaces) and ended up about £280. It is now about 5 years later and we are paying the debt with a debt collection company as we refused to pay argos for something we did not want - we have paid about £170 of it.
Could we make a claim to CPP for the 2 years we were charged?
could we charge interest and how much would this be?
Could we get compensation?
And what about all the charges argos made - what could we do about that?

I received a renewal notice this morning from CPP as I had closed my HSBC bank (who sold me the policy back in 2001) account on moving to a new home. Although not expensive, I thought I'd see if my new bank offered similar 'protection' and lo and behold, they did - FOR FREE! But not for keys. So I googled for key cover and through a series of links, found this forum.
So CPP are STILL selling this garbage. Not to me anymore though. And I'll be writing a letter to them shortly asking for a full refund. I'll let you know how I get on. Thank God for the internet and Google even if they do avoid their taxes.:mad:0 -

Sent an email to CPP on Monday, (Bank Holiday( had en email back on the same day saying they were looking into it. Had a letter today refunding all the premiums for the three years I had the policy, (it covered me my husband and daughter) I had taken this out by trying to activate a new card by phoning the number on the sticker on the card. this inculded identity theft. Premiums approx £420, getting back approx £620 with the 8% interest.
Result!! what a quick turn around Yaay:rotfl::money:
I emailed CPP about this and got the following reply:CPP wrote:Further to your enquiry please be aware that we are still in discussions with the FCA regarding our plans to provide affected customers with an appropriate method of claiming a refund should their policy have been miss-sold to them. We will be writing to all affected customers in due course and all affected customers will have an opportunity to make their claim. Please bear with us in the intervening period while we finalise these details with the FCA.

I started a claim with CPP, and I received a letter on Friday saying that the policy was sold through Virgin (MBNA) so they have passed the complaint onto them.
Is this sufficient, or am I better off calling/writing to Virgin myself to instigate the complaint with them?February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Update: Even though CPP sent me the above email, they called me the day after and said they will investigate the claim and let me know the result shortly.0

I'm a bit lost, How do you find out if you were sold the policy without any paperwork? I don't have any of my paperwork from when I was with my previous bank, but I'm almost 100% certain th\t I recognise that company name....not from all of the press coverage recently!....and I'm sure I must have been paying out as well.
Theres no way they can contact me as I have moved 4 times since then, do I just write to them to enquire...or will I get fobbed off with an automatic you were not sold this policy letter?
I know I should have kept these records....but things happen!0
