Do you do things just because your Mum did?

I need someone to explain how you peel a mushroom
they don't have skins!
Actually they do have a very thin skin. I always buy closed cup ones and if you turn the mushroom upside down and hook a small, sharp knife under the inside edge near the stem, you'll find the top skin peels off very easily.
Having said that, I never peel them, just a quick wipe with a clean cloth does the trick usually.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
When shopping always choose goods from the back of the shelf - not only are they fresher (due to stock rotation), they have been handled less by other shoppers. Already passed this on to my own daughters who both do this too.
At the supermarket checkout, always pack heavy goods first with lighter shopping on top and always put toiletries and washing powder etc in a separate carrier so as to stop odours transferring to food.
Mum was a shop assistant for many years - can you tell?0 -

So roast potatoes are always cooked separately, never around or in the same pan as the joint.
OMG I use to always make my dribble this way but when DH came along, he hated my gravy and inisisted that I made it his way (which is ok I have to say). I always do my roasties in a separate pan so I guess this is another thing that my mam did and I still do!
And I still salute the magpie when I see one and "Pinch punch first of the month" followed by "No returns" or... "Slap and a kick for being so quick" (mam also did this).:rotfl:SPC Nbr.... 1484....£800 Saved £946 in 2013)
