Was checking my emails today so went to Yahoo.co.uk, and before clicking on mail i saw a headline that looked interesting. see link

shame the jobcentres views are completely different.

1. they would tell you to apply for all jobs even if you couldnt do them or wanted them.

3. You should be spending upto 8hrs a day looking for work.

These 2 are the jobcentres complete differences.

Was told it was mandatory to sign up to UJ by the JC today, however:
• I don't have to use it (my advisor said he had not even looked at it)
• I do not have to allow them access to my account

So what's the point?

I have signed up as requested with minimum of info given and a new email account solely for this. It is just a job scraping site scraping other job scraping sites from what I have seen so far. Pointless.

It's not Mandatory and that's why you 'don't have to use it'.

Just mandatory to sign up to it, just making up the numbers I guess?
• Maybe I'm being naive, but I don't understand what the problem is with giving the jobcentre staff access to our UJ accounts? It saves me a huge amount of faffing about, writing down jobs that I've applied for, and keeps me right in proving I have done everything required of me. The only thing close to personal information is my CV which is seen by anyone I send it to.

Just an update here is the 2nd email i recieved in regards to my locked account.

Thanks for posting that.
My initial log in is locked too.

I've had the first email back from them advising me of two options:
One - Register with a different email address.
Two - Use the website without logging on.

There's another option of waiting for a second email that will 'fix' another log in attempt using my first email, but to ignore that if I've gone for option one, which I already have.

None of that helps all the activity history that has been lost from the first log in though.

Start again...

If you are happy providing personal details to the Government, then fine, but lots of citizens want to have some degree of privacy.

Uploading your CV to their website, also involves your personal details being made available to not only potential employers, but everyone on the web; so how much information do you give on your CV, that you would be happy for everyone to know?

Phone number/email address that's a given, home address, contact details? It's a charter for identity fraud.

Regarding the 'compulsary' to access the GG website; I've been told by the DSS that it is now compulsary, but unless I sign a form to commit. It isn't.

Regarding the Universal Credit; my area was being used to test the water, changes have been made at the DSS office, but nothing implimented yet, they are back peddling, as they have no clear guidance yet from central Government, as to how and what or where to implement these changes. Infact the professional bodies that are embroiled with these changes know less than me, that has done research, and emailed various Government people, all in - it seems that nobody knows!

To use the Government Gateway website - register, with some email account you will never use. Then cancel. They don't allow you to cancel, they still send jobs to that email account, beating spam rules.

Look at the job that might interest you, you can't use the site to reply, look at the email Johndoe@jobsforyou.com (not an email address dont click it!)

Copy/Paste the second part of the email into Google, Jobsforyou, then you find the company, then apply direct, and find out more about the company, which you would do anyway. Which means Monster.com loses out because you didn't use their website to apply for the job. Bypass the agency. (Monster is the agency that GG uses), Public money into a private company...shame!

How do Monster lose out? They don't lose anything as they are still being paid to set up and run the site. Monster are not an agency.

I'm confused by that post, Monster.com, run the website GG, so the Government are paying them millions. Monster ARE an agency, look it up!

All of what you state is incorrect!

Why confused? You said apply direct so the agency, MONSTER lose out! They wont lose anything at all!

So I can register at an office of Monster and they will put me forward for a job?

Can I do that here? http://www.monster.co.uk/?disRe=true

Monster is a website for job adverts not an agency

Tell me where you get it from that they are an agency? You mean recruitment agency?

They are a JOB BOARD!
