Well that's a bit of an exaggeration the max I've ever seen in one office is 4, mine has 3 and 5 and a half thousand customers.0

As is the one I work in, u have to ask what the clientele is like at those job centres to warrant that number of security guards0 -
What the two city's have in common is large numbers of unemployed migrants, many of whom are living rough.0

Unfortunately my experience of WP is this: 4 weeks working in an occupation that had no bearing on the work I was looking for. The type of work I was looking for wasn't even taken into consideration when deciding where to place me.
All the placements were at charities lifting furniture, which, with all the will in the world, isn't something I'm built to do or wish as a career.
That was my biggest gripe.
Having said that, my initial reservations aside, it was hugely enjoyable and the process of getting up each day and being with colleagues really fuels your appetite for work. So much so that I am working voluntarily somewhere else with some fantastic people, in an occupation which mirrors what I want to do and has great prospects.
I think the job centre should look at how these WP schemes are run and perhaps start their own.0 -
That assumes the WP exists to find jobs for individuals. IMHO it doesn't exist for this purpose - the WP exists simply to place significant barriers in front of claimants with the outcome being to close their claims down - to this end I suspect it is working pretty well indeed.
You're probably right. My experience was that over 50% of those who came for an induction for the WP (when i was there) did not return for some reason or another. These were mainly young (under 23) lads who had no intention of 'working for free'. The older ones (30+) with families stayed the full 4 weeks.
There is a crackdown and I suspect its part of austerity, to get claims down and pay out less. However, JSA claimants need to make sure they don't give the JC a reason to sanction them.0 -
Can anyone tell me, is the new website so we dont have to fill the paper forms out, as out page tells them what we've done and what we've applied for? Or do we have to fill the job book out also?Save, save, save, save.0

All the fjr team do is update a dialogue on the system to say you have signed they do not process benefit!
What kind of staff mistakes are you referring to?
regarding mistakes refering people for sanction who shouldnt be. every sanction should be traced back to the advisor who made the referal. if a large percentage of the referals an advisor makes are found to be unjust then that advisor should face disciplinary action. even if in one case the decision to refer is judged to be seriously wrong then they should face action. for example if they refer someone for sanction because they dont apply for a bricklaying job when they dont have any expreience of bricklaying. i am tempted to go as far as saying that someone who can prove they wrongfully refered for sanction should be able to seek compensation from the advisor who refered them for sanction or from the particular jobcentre.0 -
