So can anyone confirm for me, is this compulsory in order to receive benefits or is it as I see it, completely optional?
Due to the lack of information nobody knows. I would assume not due to human rights (your choice to sign up or not).. and DPA reasons.
DO NOT TAKE my word AS GOSPEL!!

Some people in some parts of the country say "yes they have been instructed" other's say no...0 -
I signed up on there today. Got my gateway No: uploaded my CV.
I actually like it, both my advisor and myself can keep a track of every job i do apply for, which in good.
If it's going to help me find a job faster, then so be it. I dont really care who see's my CV. I want a job and i'm not going to complain about privacy data etc i dont have time for that! I'm more worried about finding employment and keeping a roof over my head and putting food on the table.
Im signing on tomorrow, so everything is there for them to see!! I'm not worried for about what the job center say. They have a job to do and if this helps people then why complain.Be grateful the uk has this kind of help, other countries dont.0 -
Just signed on and my adviser 'introduced' UJM to me. I was given a leaflet which says "uses the latest technology to help you find jobs that are right for you" "receive emails and alerts when new jobs that match your CV are posted" and "record all your job search activity in one place making it easier to discuss it with your adviser". Seems more like a euphemism booklet to me but hey-ho.
She said it was mandatory (however I may enquire with someone further up the line if this bares any truth) and gave me a small card where i am to write my user ID on once i have signed up which i must then return to the jobcentre on my next signing date. "it allows us to log in and see if you are applying for jobs that are available".
I'm an honest job seeker, yet there's something very Big brother about this new move.
Then she is in breach of the privacy policy,

What help is that? JSA or the website?
It is not going to help anyone get a job faster unless they can make people interview you once you have applied - they have no power for that.0 -
So do you have the option when registering to grant them access?
If not and access is automatically granted then surely it looks just as bad registering and not using the service as the job centre will deem you to be 'not actively looking for work'.
Yes there is a tick box to allow this.0 -

If you search FOI requests: http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/
Those answers to questions before its launch are untested, haven't been challenged.
It's quite clear DWP were still deciding policy until recently.0 -
Hi MissSarah1972
I think the website is good well i like it or is it just only me who likes it.
Your right it may not help people find employment any faster, but it keeps everything in order, for me and my advisor to keep up to date.
Theres a section on there which says " messages from employers" so iam guessing if a employer is happy with your CV they can contact you!!!
Its a bit like the website Reed, but i'm going to see whats around the next corner and hope for the best in finding work!0 -
ok, signed on the new jobcentre website, aka registered, got the email so activated that, took me to a login page, no username sent so i cant. guess it will arrive sometime tomorrow, so i cant upload my CV, but i can jobsearch, but wait... All this rubbish i hear on here about they can see your jobsearch, if thats the case why when i looked at my signing on book did i see a piece of a5 paper with which i guess i have to fill out and hand into them if they can see my jobsearch via their site.
As for the layout of the new site. What complete and utter rubbish, I see they have removed the ability of using SOC codes those 4 digits on your Jobseekers Agreement, and when finally finding a job I could do what information is there about the job. not very much and also written in bad english.Driver required in the Portsmouth area. Running vehicles to and from to local mechanics and valuator's, arranging vehicle stock, full clean driving licence essential. Will do other aren duties.
1 aren and short version of aren't http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/aren-t
2 aren http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Aren
I dont think either of those actually apply.
So thats a great start to the new site. Well done, maybe they should get people who know how to write proper english.0 -

Messages from employers will only show there surely if you have not sent an email direct to the employer? If you can hit APPLY or something like you can on say Reed then you may get a reply that way but it's hard to think that this site can do that when you can not do that on Monster but all replies are via emails to your inbox.
Besides if an employer wants you for an interview they would just call as sending any mssg to anyone is relying on them being logged in all the time to get it.0 -
But people have not been told what's going on.
What do you mean you can view a customer's history ?
What history do you mean, with or without their permission ?
I can't speak for every jocentre or advisor, but my customers know exactly what's going on.
Ther job search history, applications, cv, saved searches etc!
With there consent of course.
Remember the system only went live today, for those that have registered I have shown them exactly what I can see when I log in.0
