New Kitchen - Where to buy?

Hi Samo8076,
£4k should be fine. I have been quoted c. £2.8k by two competing local designers for an 11 unit Pronorm kitchen (kitchen area is about 8 sq. m), and £1.2k from one of them for fitting - total £4k!
The price includes everything but appliances. I have not specified any clever fittings yet, but they are not too expensive either."That which does not kill you will hurt like hell", Friedrich Nietzche.0 -
Hi Guys, bit of an update..Started off at Magnet Trade, quoted £2000 for 9 high gloss units plus the appliances, £1550 without.
Howdens wouldnt give me a quote without having a Trade account with them, and to be honest the way the were with me i wouldnt have given them my business anyway.
Wickes Housten Take-Away range, came in at £680 for the units, but didnt include any plinths, end panels, handles or appliances.
B & Q came in at £1300, this includes all the plinths, end panels, cornices, cabinets, soft close hinges, handles and appliances. Went with this in the end, and being delivered on a day I specify.
Il be honest and say i never expected B & Q to be such a good price, but just goes to show that even the big main stream suppliers can offer good deals.
So thats the end to my kitchen hunting, have to say its been quite stressful, but now that iv got my kitchen and the work scheduled to start in just over a week..im very happy and excited.
Thanks again for all your help.0 -
Thanks for the update samo8076, very interesting. I've got Howdens coming via a builder who has done some previous work for me so I want him to fit it. I know that they won't give me a price and I'll have to wait for the quote from the builder so this is why I'm trying to find out which of the ranges is reasonably priced so that I don't get a nasty surprise when the quote arrives! I'm going to get the appliances separately and only have the hob and oven integrated so hopefully this will keep initial costs down and looking at it at the weekend I think I will actually only need 7 or possibly 8 units.
I have looked at B&Q but to be honest I like the thought of the builder sorting any problems if something is missing rather than if I order it myself for them to fit. Of course if Howdens is horrendous I might be looking at B&Q as their brochure prices seem reasonable. What range did you go for?
Unfortunately regardless of where I get it from I'll have to wait until after christmas to get it fitted
Please keep me updated samo8076 and hope it all goes somoothly from now on. - Just because I love this emoticon!0 -
I went for the 'it' range in gloss white. The link below is a pic of the kitchen.

Hope Howdens work out for you. My Dad had a kitchen fitted from them a few years back and its certainly decent quality, i just didnt like the way they treated me personally, but silver lining is i got a decent price from B & Q0 -
That's the one that I want, you have good taste :rotfl:
I think ultimately it will come down the price, I'm imagining that B&Q will come out cheaper than Howdens but I could be wrong so I will wait and see.
TBH my gut feeling all along has been to go with the gloss white from B&Q but have got swept along with Howdens (via the builder) and an independent (via a neighbour) which by the way came out at around £4500-£5000 all in but wasn't keen on the man or the service or the price!
I am pleased to hear of a good result samo8076, this is giving me renewed focus! - Just because I love this emoticon!0 -
Pleasure. Now i have the task of sorting the work tops out lol0

Just got back from Howdens, thought I'd head over after work to check out the ranges for real rather than just in the catalogue. Got completely ignored and gave up after 10 minutes
They are coming tomorrow to measure up so hopefully the person coming will be a bit more friendly! - Just because I love this emoticon!0 -
Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.0

B&Q IT kitchen is a similar quality to a Wickes takeaway hence the low price...They display them much better than Wickes do with their cheaper ranges so they look better to the untrained eye!
Will still do a job for you though OP. You are getting what you pay for and not a huge bargain though........
Expect Howdens to be a bit more money than B&Q ellie.. better product though, the service can be a bit rough around the edges. They are a trade outlet first and foremost and some branches do not really know to act like retailers to their end users...varies from branch to branch though.
Still reckon that on a very tight budget, Ikea give you the most bang for your bucks.0 -
Thanks for the info cddc. I'm probably still going to go with Howdens (price dependent of course), was just hoping to be able to get a look at the actual product more than anything else, I'll have to try my luck on a different day!
Do you have any idea about the price ranges? Per a message above I think Glendevon may be out of my price range so I'm now considering the gloss white in Greenwich which I think may be slightly cheaper.
The measuring up appointment is tonight so hopefully the end is in sight:eek: - Just because I love this emoticon!0
