New Kitchen - Where to buy?

Hi guys, I’m looking in to buying a new 8 piece kitchen for my open plan kitchen/lounge before Christmas/Early Jan. My budget to buy the kitchen is £1200 (not including work tops, appliances).
So far I’ve had a quote from Homebase which came in at £2500(in the sale) without work tops but with new cooker and hob. £2500 is way too expensive imo.
I have priced up several kitchens with diy-kitchens.com and they come in around £1300 delivered, which is pretty good, but I have to pay extra to specify delivery date, have doors fitted etc.
I have looked at the Wickes take-away range, and I figured I could get everything I need for less than £1000, but I’m unsure of the quality.
Basically I can’t really afford to go more than £1200 as I need to buy appliances, worktop and labour to get it fitted. So wondering if you guys can recommend anywhere either online or in store that I could look at to achieve my goal? It’s taken me a long time to save for this, so want to get it right without going over my budget.
Many thanks.

Had a text this morning from my local Howdens. They are offering 8 units (built under oven housing, drawer pack, and choice of 6 highline or wall cabinets or mixture of both) plus a basic oven, hob and attractor pack, 2 38mm worktops (charcoal) and 1 plinth all in white gloss for £999 inc vat. Not sure if this is a national promotion, or just local, but certainly offers are available.
Where in the country are you based?Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
I've been looking at the Wickes Takeaway range too. Certainly seems good value for money if you don't need any complicated unit designs. There's a price comparison website which was launched in August I think and I've used it a few times. http://www.kitchen-compare.com/
It shows the details of cabinet thickness, backs, etc. Wickes certainly seems favourable compared to Homebase/B&Q as they appear to use 15mm backs so are more rigid.
My budget is similar, but more like £1500 inc all appliances/worktop in a small kitchen.
I'll look at DIY Kitchens again!

Wow that is a really really good price. I'm by Chester.0 -
DIY kitchens are great, I even had a tour round the factory. your price seems high, tho, for 8 units! The doors they use are Second Nature, you can google this range to see them. Many independant kitchen shops sell them.0

I bought the cream stamford from the wickes takeaway kitchen range this year.
To keep costs low I didnt purchase any corner units as these seemed pretty expensive, just two straight runs.
Bought solid oak worktops from this ebay seller which is really really nice and good value too

finished the wood with ikea treatment oil, really easy to do as well and a fraction of the cost some other oils are, just 3 - 5 coats and its done.

Managed to get this sink in cream direct from shaws, apparently most people want white so they were flogging the cream ones for 80 quid on ebay! (might be worth dropping them a call).

and added an ikea tap.
The kitchen looks amazing and for the money it really was worth every penny.
I added some really nice tiles and all the appliances, the whole thing came in at under 2k including labour for the tiler and the below expensive tiles

Hope it helps!0 -

Wickes take away kitchens are not very good quality. Their other range isnt to bad though.
Homebase really is overpriced rubbish.
Diy kitchens cabinets are pretty much unbeatable and second nature doors are nice mid range doors so dig a bit deeper into your wallet and go with them0 -
I just purchased a B and Q take away kitchen...I know people do not rate them but we arent trade for Howdens or Benchmarx and this was the best we could afford0

The takeaway Wickes units do not have solid backs and have a much cheaper cabinet construction. It is the to order "Style" range that is shown on this rather misleading website. If it was a fair comparison it would show the takeaway range priced against the B&Q IT, much more of a like for like comparison. Mind you, if it did that B&Q would no longer advertise it as they would not look so cheap on it anymore....
To be fair to it, it does show people how overpriced Homebase are for the spec though, so I guess it does have some point.0 -
Thanks for all the input guys. Im lucky to have a B&Q, Wickes and Howdens all within 1/2mile of each other, so going to have a look around them all this Sat to see what the units are like aswell as the cost. If no good then i think il be going with diy-kitchens.
One more thing, where do you guys get your appliances from?0
