Decent running shoes are worth their price. Though I'm begging you make sure you get shoes suitable for the shape of your feet if you intend to run more than a couple of miles a couple of times a week. An ex of mine bought the wrong pair of running shoes and then spent hundreds of pounds on physio to sort out the damage that was done to his knees.

i couldn't agree more. if you're spending £40 make sure they're decent if you intend to do a lot of mileage (a 30min run will roughly equal 3 miles x 5 times a week = 15 miles a week - a decent pair of trainers should do you for about 200 miles). trainers that don't suit your foot shape can potentially do a lot of damage. i ran the marathon last year, got a pair of adidas for £40 (albeit discounted at the charity runners seminar) and I still wear them today (ok i've only actually done one road run since the marathon but i use them on the gym's treadmill ok!!!!).

i'd also recommend asics. my first pair were £40 and never had any problems with them.

let me know how you get on with your running slowly fading xx

Hi everybody- anyone out there?? Sad if you are -just managed to catch up on all the thread. Some tough times for a few of you. I do remember working out a budget years ago and being shocked to find that I only had £15 for the month to feed 2 adults and a baby- not Queenie but her older sister- the empress,-god did I cry. That was many moons ago and now I've just paid off our mortgage- happy days. Please don't think I'm crowing- but things do improve after time- mind you its taken 25 years. Oh- I do have a shed budget-:rotfl:
Are those shopping bags you're carrying really bags of debt???

By the bye- couldn't agree more about the trainers- get the best you can and take it in easy steps. I'm training for a 10k run- got a 12 week programme. Did too much too soon last time and couldn't do anything for 3 months- so back to square one. Off to save lives now.

Hey gang! hows everyones weekend been? ive had a good one for once. Had the craft fair yesterday and it went well thankfully, its a good feeling when someone buys something you made god i hope it doesnt fall apart now!
Spent £1.75 on a sandwich i had to leave at 730 and ran out of time to make lunch. so £3.25 total this week. ive cut down the total from £10 a week to £5 so i can put the other £5 into the Paris or business fund.
Anyhoo enough of that gonna go have a cuppa tea and watch tv am shattered. lata x x

    Hi all

Glad 2 c u r all doing so well - i am having a busy weekend finishing lots of course work - so hopefully next week i can spend a bit more time preparing my soa and reading this site properly to get lots more ideas.

Thank you all for your feedback regarding budgets - it is very useful. At the moment i have rent, bills and shopping budget and i am going to try to get through the month using the £10 a week challenge. When i have prepared my soa i will use some of your ideas for the other budgets - so thanks.

No spend for me yesterday or today xx

Well done ciara, enjoy your cuppa.
I guess everyone else is out enjoying their weekend and the nice weather.

I've been reorganising the pots and plants in our back yard - DH does gardening & handyman work for other people but it seems that the things in our house are down to me!

he does 'usually' do the ironing though -so I forgive him.

On countdown now for my jolly holidays!! 11 days to go:j

Thanks to this thread the holiday is paid for & if I've worked it out right I will have enough in my bank account to change to euros for spending money and that's the day before payday:j

The few days before we go away will be crunch time - I've told myself I DON'T NEED ANYTHING NEW so many times ('cept the knickers of course!) but old habits die hard!

Pre MSE I would hit the shops 3 or 4 days before I went away and buy almost anything that fit. Plan now is to pull out all the clothes I possess and try them on - wash, mend, alter and sell the rest on ebay!!

As well as that put together a food box 'cos we are driving to France and self catering and I have been putting away the 'One free' for the last few weeks.

Oh I'm so excited! a MSE holiday! so hopefully when we come back no  due to increased debt!!

Well off to find the bathers!!!
