Cats/dogs on the bed - what are your thoughts?

I have a dog/no cats/ The dog doesn't come in bed and never will. In fact she doesn't go upstairs.
I dont really care what other people do though.0 -
Any of them can sleep on my bed during the day (1 dog, 6 cats) but dog goes in the kitchen at night, purley because he stomps over me all night wanting to get close, gets too hot, moves down the bed again, stomps over me again on and on it goes, all night. He also gets up everytime a cat comes in the cat flap, so downstairs it is for him.
Only two of the cats sleep on our bed at night, one at the bottom and my old boy next to me, one or two sleep with my DD, the other 2 usually sleep downstairs.
I've been looking after my mum's dog for the last 3 weeks, one day last week was particulalry cold, I came home to find all 8 of them on my bed.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Continuing on from my previous post, the issue of aging dogs is also a reason not to have them anywhere my bed - or even upstairs at all.
Mutt was increasingly incontinent towards the end, and if she'd been used to sleeping there then it would have been very difficult to turf her out to sleep elsewhere, although the thought of a dog widdling on my bed every night is less than appealing. However as she got further past it she stopped being able to get down the stairs ( although getting up never seemed to be a problem.) I forgot the stair gate one day, and found mutt fannying around on the top step trying to come down. Ended up having to carry her and nearly broke both our necks. 7 stone person carrying over 3 stone of dog down a lethal set of stairs with 2 sharp turns.....
So I repeat, downstairs dogs only. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
My furry girl has us very well trained. We are allowed to sleep in *her* bed so long as we hang on to the very edges only and leave her the bulk of the bed! Right now, I am relegated to the wrong side as her Majesty has decided she is comfy on my usual side and is fast asleep an snoring!
We never got to have two legged kids so my girl is my baby...she can sleep wherever she chooses, and does, but she does not get on the counters, I have to say I am very lucky as she is a good girl and obeys. She got on the counter once, was picked up and reprimanded with a very firm "NO!" and has never bothered since. Worked the same with my husband...
As the saying goes "everything is better with cat hair...."Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

My dog drives me crazy some nights, I wake up with cramp and achy legs then realise its because she takes up most of the bed! But when I wake up with her snoring on my shoulder it seems to make up for it! She also does get in the bed occasionally, actuakly pretty much every day after we've keft for work! but then I do change our sheets every 2 days!0

I did find an old wool blanket and decided to put it on our bed for the cats, I thought they'd appreciated being able to snuggle down on it and it would keep the cat hairs off the duvet cover. I was right, they loved it. But they decided to sleep under it rather than on top so the hair problem is still there, lol. But it's amusing to go through and find one large, one medium and one small lump under this old blanket, all of them snoring away.Val.0

both my cats sleep in with me, under the covers or on top, wherever they fancy, usually they start getting restless a few minutes before the alarm goes off which is handy! Im not too fussy about where their feet have been, after 14 years of this ive come to no harm, in fact i miss them if they go for a night wander.0

Our cat does sleep with us at night. She waits until we are just about to fall asleep and then curls in the gap between my legs when I am curled on my side. I am guessing it warm. When she was a kitten she used to sleep on my hip/thigh.0
