My OH thought he would get his last year (was 60 in Oct 2011) but he was told, no, he would get it this year, but now he has to wait until next year, as the dates for claiming you have to be 61 before April 2012. Will the goal post change again next year, I wonder?

That is a bit strange as I was 61 in May 2012 & I got mine this year. Think he should query that one.

The latest birth date qualifying for this years payment is 5th July 1951 - so being born in May 1951 you will have qualified. bundlebobs OP born in October 1951 won't be eligible.
  • Hi,

and it says date changes every year,

    Part 3: Eligibility

Usually, you’ll qualify for Winter Fuel Payment if:
    • you were born on or before 5 July 1951 (winter 2012 to 2013 - this date changes every year)

Well, we have to pay for our fuel anyway, the WFA doesn't go straight to npower. And I don't waste money on meat - a cheap to feed vegetarian. :)

AS far as I can see, the younger lot are those with the iphones, ipads etc

BTW: does your irony awareness need new batteries?;)

  • Got my letter today to say I had £200 going in shortly.

    But.....

...my husband has also applied this year and has been had a letter saying that his application is being processed....so I presume they will take £100 back off me, so that they can give it to him?

Will have to wait and see.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I didn't get the WFA yet, but I did get a nice surprise in this morning's post. Cheque from HMRC, tax refund, £372.47. I've no idea how that comes about, but it will pay off my credit card, then I'm out of debt before the New Year. Very good news.
