I do mine raw - they are not in the freezer for that long as I use mushrooms quite a lot. I put the date I freeze them on the bag and try to use them in date order.Enjoying an MSE OS life0 -
i want to freeze some mushrooms, would you fry them first, cool down then freeze or freeze them raw. i have frozen them raw before but they tasted a bit rubbery and squishy when cooked.....................help:xmastree::xmassign::rudolf::xmastree:0

Yes, I'd cook them first as mushrooms are one of the things that lose quality when defrosted.
Personally I'd make duxelles with them -a mushroom hash used in Beef Wellington. I'd add it to bolognese sauce, cottage pie, stuffings, pies. Just chop very finely (food processor is handy here) and sautee in butter with some finely chopped onion and shallot. Freeze in small amounts.0 -
I cook them in butter (lots) and then freeze them with the buttery juices. Delicious on toast... or in cooking...0

I cook mine first, too

Thankyou for duxelles link, thriftlady.
Could I prep and freeze the huge ones as garlic mushrooms for later panfry/grill? - while freezing the others in different ways?
If so, at what stage please?CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

I have searched high and low for some advice on this, but have found nothing...
I have a tub of fresh mushrooms in the fridge, but they aren't going to us fresh for too much longer. Can I freeze them? If so, how do I do it? Should I cook them first?
Thank you so much :beer:Trying hard to money save....0 -
I freeze mushrooms! I wash and slice them then just bung them in a freezer bag, they're fine like that.
I don't usually have too many, but if there's lots a tip I've picked up from my Mum is to freeze them laid out in a single layer on a tray. When they're frozen, scrape them off the trap and pop them in the freezer bag, that way they don't all clump together!0 -
I cook them first, either in a little water or some butterthisismoneysaving wrote: »I have searched high and low for some advice on this, but have found nothing...
