red- yay we do love a wedding, sorry to hear about your job, put plenty of bits and pieces to when you amalgamate (crikey thats a big word for me) 2 houses into 1.

PF clean done, gone my tesco CC vouchers so am off up their fo essentials for he kids finding a pair of socks in this house is a task in itself. Then vets for tablets, then tip didn;t put recycling down on the road in time  and Mr Rat is bit partial to the odd dog food tin/vinesse whirl box etc.

Tappers hope the bug has gone x

  • Good afternoon everyone :)

Gosh a busy one today and lunchtime before I made it here.

JackieO - I hope all goes well for your daughter today.

RedLady - sorry to hear about the redundancy but sometimes these things can work out for the best. Anyway welcome and congratulations on the Hogmany wedding. That sounds very romantic indeed!

Rachel - I used this recipe the first time I made it

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4276039

substituting the cheapest beer I could find for the American pale ale but we went into Lidl one day and they had marinade sachets which were something like 79p each or 4 for £1. I can't remember what they were called but they included smoked chilli and they are in little foil sachets and are above the freezers. Anyway I used one of those mixed half and half with some cheap ready made barbecue sauce and it worked out even tastier than the original recipe. I used a shoulder of pork, marinaded overnight then browned it in a large pan and put it on high for 20 minutes then left on low all day and the pork just fell apart as soon as I touched it with a fork, it was delicious. We have it on rolls or pitta breads, we mix it with rice or have it on top of soup or lentils, you can do loads of things and they are all cheap and fantastic. Give it a go and let me know what you think.

Very cold and damp here today and we are forecast rain for later. I need to sort the back bedroom out so I can put an airer in there, I think my line drying days are done for a while.

I got some Tesco vouchers yesterday so need to see what I can double them up for and use for something to put away for a Christmas gift or treat.

Does anyone here use wood pellet litter for animals? And if so, can you think of anything greener to do with it than put it in the bin? I hate making waste but am not sure if it can go anywhere rather than the normal bin.

Must eat some food, mmm home made pea soup, I love soup in this weather. Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs to all who need them or just want them. Have a super day everyone :)

  • Bargainbird Thanks for the good wishes, but they are still sore :( I went to the doctors this morning but because I have asthma and copd all she can do is give me more painkillers. Oh well such is life.
Carried on to Aldi and got three medium chickens reduced from £3.69 to £2.58 which is cheaper than buying a small chicken, they are happily snuggled in the freezer :D I also got some of the frozen chicken portions at £1.59 a bag, they are really good value and I can get two meals from a pack easily. I also got an electronic digital kitchen thermometer reduced to £3.99 and a food flask for £2.99 :j
The price of veggies are rising, even in Aldi so I want to get some more but I will have to dehydrate them because I have no room left in the freezer.
Welcome Redlady :wave:sorry to hear about your job. I hope that the wedding isn't going to be scuppered because of it.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

i have days when i am rushed off my feet and days when i dont have much to do and today is going to be a day where i dont have much to do. I did quite a bit yesterday and was up early this morning to complete what i wanted to do so i'm left today wondering what to do with myself.
If you're that desperate for something to do, I have a gazillion things that want doing, insufficient time, and zero energy.....:rotfl:

Chirpychick well done on your baking - it's always interesting tweaking the recipes to fit what you have in the house, isn't it?:o Stick around - there'll be a goodly number of virtual aunties here for your little'un when he puts in an appearance.:o

Redlady welcome - while we all of us obviously have sad times in our lives, this thread is blessedly free of "doom and gloom".;) Sorry about the redundancy - bad timing, with the wedding so soon, but hopefully, this will be the start of a new adventure for you.:o

Dylan sends a special Lurcher (((HUG))) - you need to experience one, honest:D - to all those, human, canine and other species, who need one.:D For information, a Lurcher hug involves him pushing up against you, and turning his head so that his rather long neck does the hugging - if you're really lucky, you get a slurpy kiss, as well.:rotfl:
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • I feel that today i should de-lurk as have been reading posts for a very long time and with out knowing it you have all helped me/us over the last year and a bit with saving towards a deposit for our first home which we now have and our wedding which took place earlier this year.

The sun is shining at the moment but i know as soon as i leave work the sun will be gone.

Todays tea will be pie and mash both from the freezer.

Have a long list of things to do when i get home from work to try and stop me from eating as now back on the diet.

Hope that you all have a lovely day,
  • Afternoon all

    Hi redlady_1 :)
JackieO - hope DD's op goes well.

Taken the afternoon off work today as I'm off to Bristol later to go see Rizzle Kicks in concert :j. Travelling up with my friend, and meeting an ex-colleague friend up there, also meeting my brother for a drink too. Should be a good night, just hoping it doesn't set off my vertigo too much.

Busy morning in work. It was my last chance to get any bits done before I go off for my operation as I'm in hospital tomorrow morning for pre-op checks and in a meeting tomorrow afternoon, then have leave Mon/Tues. So spent the morning photocopying and getting resources ready for my colleague who is covering me.

OS wise - used up dodgy fruit in my muesli this morning, made veggie burgers for lunch and will freezer LOs.

    Have a good day all

Hi all and a big welcome to new people and returners :)
The meal out last night was lovely, our neighbour had left a sum of money behind the bar with her son,who was very welcoming. We ended up spending a bit more,it was a mid week special but we ended up having starters and pud :D and liqueur coffees.Regretted it later on though, when I woke with indigestion:rotfl:
My sore throat has gone now and the cold hasnt really developed:jhugs to those under the weather.
Tea tonight is roast pork-already cooked and sliced from the freezer, and some mash I had in there too.DS1 not that keen so may do sausages for him,got some that need using up.

The rest of the afternoon will be spent typing up DS2s assignment for his sports massage course. Its late in cos he missed a session when he was ill-the tutor said she'd email it and forgot, despite him ringing college, and calling in she only sent it this week ,and when he opened it,it was the feedback sheet, not the question.Anyway,he could get the gist of it after another email to her,but she doesnt seem very helpful. He hasnt done any study for 10 years and is finding it a bit hard,so I said I'd type it- the skeletal system here I come:rotfl:
LW-aw,you'll miss Dylan when he goes home, sounds luvverly.
    Have good days all x

Hi All . hope you are all keeping well. Just a very quick visit. Have just taken a call from the uni for my son.The Uni has been in contact with the police for advice as well regarding the 'animals' my son has been having issues with. They asked him if he would be prepared to have a meeting with the dean of the Uni, the police and a couple of other people high up at uni . Of course he agreed so am travelling down next Tuesday ready for the meeting Wed morning. I bought him a new sim for his phone so they dont have his new number and I am keeping his old sim in an old handset so we still have any messages that they send. 87 texts and missed calls from them yesterday.Vile vile creatures. The boy has been suspended from his course pending the outcome of the investigation and one of the girls , (original bully) has taken time off due to the stress of all this :eek: shes having a bl00dy laugh.
We are off to the local uni tomorrow for a look round. Will update later on if any more news and thanks again so much for your continuing support.

    Take care all
Paul Walker , in my dreams;)
