Oh yes, may I also remind you that I display PLENTY of drive, determination, enthusiasm etc. - but unfortunately, it still doesn't seem to cut any ice with Mersey employers. They know, you see, they can pick and choose from the many thousands on the dole in this area.

    Do you see?

I can't think of a nice way to say this but - you are the one who needs to get real.
Any experienced employee worth their salt would have been successful in finding employment, any kind of employment, within 6 months - even temp work or cleaning jobs alone shows drive, determination, flexibility and marketable skills. Not finding any work at all shows that you have none of these skills and so why should someone employ you if you are so obviously no good?

Inexperienced graduates are a completely different kettle of fish as they are in a catch 22 situation - no job means no experience, and experience is often a prerequisite for a job.

Try coming down to the Wirral, mate, and see just how difficult it is to get a job here - ANY job, for that matter, and not just a cleaning one. It is the WORST place in the UK for unemployment.

And what the hell do you mean by "no good"? May I remind you that I have worked for BIG organisations like the Civil Service, the Police etc. So if I really was "no good", as you put it, then I wouldn't have got such important jobs, would I?

If you were any good, you'd be employed by now wouldn't you? You wouldn't have had months, possibly even years of constant rejections, would you?

You'd have found a charity job to tide you over and trust me, I've worked with charities - they'll take anyone who can stand up with their eyes open and work for free.

    Proof, pudding and all that.

You haver put a lot of effort into complaining about the state of Merseyside and job prospects, I'll give you that. Do you think it'll help you find a job?

Yes, I would LOVE to relocate, as I HATE it here. Trouble is, finding an area where:

    a. There ARE plenty of admin jobs
    b. Finding suitable accommodation

  • The agency that said that because you had a gap in your employment history was talking out of it's !!!!!.

I had to have a certifiable employment record and was told that as long as I could prove periods of unemployment that would be sufficient.

Truegho, I only said what I did about your IT skills level because of what you said in your last thread on the same topic.

"You made some good points, esp in regard to learning Sage (something I have always wanted to do, but have been dissuaded due to the expensive prices of the courses) and Excel (of which I have some knowledge already, but need to consolidate the forumula part). I am about to undertake my ECDL under The Work Programme"

Excel 'some knowledge' and you don't know formulas. Well, formulas are the most basic bit of Excel, so you must be pretty much a novice still.

ECDL - this is a real 'never used a computer before in my life' beginner level course.

So it seemed reasonable to assume your IT skill levels are low compared to many of the people you are competing against for jobs.

If you have the skills, experience and qualifications in IT, great. But if you don't, then you are out of date, no debate.

I'm sorry I offended you. I understand your frustrations, it's not easy to find work in a lot of areas. But all you can do is make sure you are better than all the other candidates, and if that takes a bit of re-training/refresher courses, then you don't have much choice.

Abusing the employers for picking someone else instead of you isn't a positive way to get out of your situation. They want the best candidate for them. Are you saying that they should give you a job instead of the best candidate for them? And if there are 1000s of you applying, why should they give you personally that chance instead of one of those other people? You are abusing them for not giving you the job. Someone else is celebrating getting it. There's no difference to the overall unemployment figure locally whether you get it or someone else, the employer is still providing work to someone. Why do you take it so personally? They can't suddenly find 1000 jobs because 1000 people apply. 999 are always going to be disappointed. Why are you more special than the other 999? work out a way of being more special and useful to the employers, and it'll be your turn to be the one lucky one, one day. But there's no good ranting on because you think you are better than the person they picked, or because you accept that you weren't better than the person they picked but they should have picked you anyway because they should feel sorry for you or be obliged to give you a chance. I'm sure they feel sorry for all those 999 unsuccessful people and would love to give them all a chance. But they still want the best person for the job.

Yes, well said. And I respect EVERYBODY who tries to help me on these boards.

What I do NOT like are the minority who seem to think that is my fault that I can't get a job. It is very upsetting and hurtful to have such sniping remarks hurled at you, which are, after all, born of shallow-minded, misconceived notions.

I respect you for trying to help the OP.

EDIT - and dismissed out of hand. What a surprise.

I'm going to regret this -

    A) Why only admin? You're not getting jobs for this so it tells me you need to widen your search. Try cleaning or care work, they often don't require experience.

    B) Suitable? You don't have the luxury of 'suitable' right now. try www.spareroom.co.uk - at least lodging is temporary so once you have a job you can then find something suitable

EDIT - You may also like to know that there are about 700 charity positions in the surrounding area (5 miles of Liverpool, Merseyside)
