You think your home is messy now - fast forward to the toddlers years and you will realise mess has a different meaning :)

Hope you don't over do it, enjoy your rest while you can.

Yep - seconded - you should enjoying this time!

Put your feet up, sweep dust under the rug, stuff stuff back into cupboard and make yourself a cup'o'tea

That's very very kind of your MiL. My future in-laws are pretty tight for cash so to be honest, we probably help them out more than they help us. Not that I mind that at all - they absolutely deserve it, and I'm so lucky that they are brilliant.

ooo...jealous of your chinese takeaway.... think porridge, think getting into size 12 jeans.....

No no no you just don't understand how revolting the house is at the moment. Builder left the seat up after using the loo and I was mortified at how bad it was underneath. Whole house needs a proper clean and sort out. Not just nesting. It really is revolting as I have been far too tired to do anything. :(

Another day down with work but it's going to be a long haul tomorrow. Want to go in Sunday to finish off some bits in peace but BF insisting we go see MIL then so may have to go in Monday which I'm not pleased about.

This week feels never ending. So very extremely tired.

Well I am officially free from work for hopefully a very long time. Total bliss.

This week has been a disaster financially , ethically, emotionally. I know we have gone backwards with our savings but that's ok. It was always going to be a tough week.

We have had 2 takeaways and also a very yummy meal out in one of my favourite gastro pubs. I noticed that the pub meal cost the same as a takeaway so going to make an effort to go out next time we are tempted to call the Chinese. We have promised ourselves a few date nights before baby is here so pleased we actually went.

We also got dragged around kiddicare and mamas and papas by MIL. This is difficult for me as I have worked for a few high end children's manufacturers and I never ever thought I would buy anything from these type of shops. I fact I hate it. Most of their stuff is cheap and unethical. But she wants to buy baby stuff and she doesn't shop online nor would she consider going to a nice independent boutique as she would see it as too expensive. She bought us a baby monitor (fair enough as I would have probably gone to amazon for that) but we ended up buying a mattress and mattress protector and I am stressing that we haven't done enough research and they are not organic etc. I have refused to get them out of the plastic until I have read up on them. So we spent a ton of money that day.

Bf would like me to tell you that he has been extra mse by cutting his own fringe. I have to agree that it looks pretty good and means he won't need to visit the hairdressers for a few more weeks. He is very proud of his thriftiness :D
  • At least you're in a position where you have savings you can dip into! That's something to be very proud of! :)

Well done bf on his thriftiness. Keep up the good work!

Well done to the BF! :T
I cut my BF's hair most of the time, though I did have a disaster last time - not really sure why I did it to be honest, just wasn't concentrating as we were rushing to a party. Anyhoo, got fixed by the hairdressers. If you are just trimming, it can save you the odd tenner here and there.

Yes, you must have those date nights. I think they are so important. So don't feel guilty for spending that money - you need to enjoy yourselves as a couple rather than 'mum &dad'

I looked up kiddicare organic - and they only seem to have 7 items in the range

There is a mattress there - but not sure if it's the one you bought?

Also M&Ps - only seem to be the Stokke carriers that are made from organic materials

Haha no not yet. Have just been too ashamed to post as have been shamefully un mse over the last few weeks and spent money all over the place. There have been meals out and takeaways for nights in, heated airers, Christmas shopping and today I spent a fortune on baby stuff.

It would be fine if I hadn't lost complete track of the finances along with it. If I'm honest, as fun as some of this excessive spending seems, a lot of it was due to an unexpected bout of depression which meant I could barely get out of bed. I didn't have the energy to do much at all. I know at 33 weeks I am allowed to be a hormonal wreck but I am really hoping it doesn't return post baby :(

I know I sound so ungrateful but everybody who has given me a present for the baby so far has given me something pink. My MIL has been firmly warned off pink so has brought nothing but white and cream. What's wrong with colour people! I had a lovely time today ordering what I hope are excellent quality muslins in a range of bright colours and sizes. We are trying to get the nursery sorted so we have bought some second hand ikea white drawers from eBay and I am searching for two expedit white 4 squares but no one is selling them near us so may have to trek to actual ikea at some point. I am also obsessing over a b and q feather lampshade that they have never actually had in stock ( their customer service has been totally crap apart from a lovely lady in the Kendal store who deserves a huge pay rise and a hug for being so lovely) and a blackout blind with clouds on by farg and form that the only stockist in the uk seems out of stock and I am waiting to hear if they will ever have it back. BF is quite rightly in love with some belle and boo wall stickers but I would rather have one of their prints. Either way they are a tad expensive but they are amazing. May have to see if grandparents would like to be involved in that one.

I took back the mattress and we now have an organic coconut fibre one which I am much happier with and that only ended up £15 more. It would have been much cheaper if BF would have waited to let me order it online via a cashback site but he was being patient enough about it bless him.

So yes a small fortune spent and nothing going into the savings for a few weeks. I need to sit down and get everything back under control tomorrow especially as the recent RBS !!!! up has meant BF seems to be missing a load of money from his account.

I know it's been a bit excessive but we have scrimped and saved on so much of the baby stuff so it is really nice to splash out on a few special things that we really like rather than making do. Feeling much better and ready to get on with life again. Hurrah!

Well I'm glad baby isn't here yet - 33 weeks is too early!

I hope you are feeling ok mouche. Do speak up post birth if you do not feel right.

As for money its all about balance. For my point of view forvus as long as its not on the cc and its cash then so be it! :)
