Hi everyone :j
Andie I'm loving the sound of all this rescuing. You are in a great position now and it's lovely you are giving something back. I thought you would be trying to keep them all and end up on a programme called the lady with 40 dogs :rotfl:
Gadgets gadgets gadgets. I am so glad other people think the same as me. I find all video games soooo boring. All I need is a laptop and I am enjoying having use of the old iPad but any tablet would have done. I'm actually thinking something smaller and lighter would be better for breast feeding etc so may end up selling this one anyway but will wait til after Xmas.
Another day down at work and a nsd too. Had left over veggies from yesterday's roast with some veggie sausages and gravy for dinner. Did a lot of moaning that we had run out of chocolate but resisted the urge to waddle down to the shop for more. Planning on making apple cake tomorrow with the cooking apples in our veg box. Bf hates anything with fruit in so may have to eat it all myself.
Spent the night wading through changing over direct debits to Santander and also emptied out my is a to put into the new account.
Very sad to see the news about co op. They literally saved me from bankruptcy 18 months ago and have easily been the best bank I have ever dealt with. Their customer service is faultless, they are easy to contact and very friendly and helpful. I am the perfect example of the good that can happen when you give someone a chance to get back on their feet rather than shaft them as sneakily and nastily as possible (yes I mean you Barclays evil empire of doom)0 -
WARNING VERY MOANY POST. I SHOULD JUST IGNORE IT AND I WILL POST SOMETHING HAPPIER TOMORROW
Urgh I am so tired and drained after a horrible day. Had a day off but had to pop into town to get some stuff for work. Thought I would combine this with a bit of Christmas shopping. After 3 hours I was shattered and couldn't find half the stuff which I need for work for the rest of the week.
We still don't have all the accounts from the closure of the business sorted (approaching 2 years now) and our accountant has well and truly screwed us over. I am partly responsible for burying my head in the sand with this but now I just want it sorted. Trouble is bf and my mum are involved too and I ended up having a huge argument with mum this afternoon due to all the stress of it. Hormones got the better of me and I spent half the afternoon in bed feeling very sorry for myself indeed.
Bf dragged me out fridge freezer shopping this evening which was fun and we now have more of an idea what we want. However it seems his credit worthiness has run out for a bit as Santander have turned him down for a credit card. We shall try again in a few months.
Spent a fiver on lunch when out plus bus fare and bought a little £1.70 candle as a treat to cheer myself up. Also spent £18 on Xmas presents.
I have just realised that this little diary is 1 year old tomorrow. I shall be back feeling much more positive and wearing my party hat :beer:0 -

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear diary, happy birthday to you
Thanks for the birthday wishes people. My diary is so excited to have made it to one year old even if I did abandon it for half the year
I have reread it through and Andie you are so right. I've come such a long way. When I started this we were trying to be good but smoking and drinking and feeling really depressed with the stresses of me nearly being made bankrupt. Then bfs mum got cancer (she is still with us and being terribly brave) and then exactly 6 months ago I found out I was pregnant and spent the next 20 weeks vomiting :rotfl:
There has been loads of good stuff. We finally took a holiday together and it was desperately needed. We have finally got around to doing lots to the house including a complete redo of the garden, living room and we are starting on turning the spare room into a nursery.
Financially I think we have overpayed about £1500 of the mortgage plus built up an emergency fund of £4500 (should be 5k very soon). Bf and I still disagree a lot about money but he has grown tolerant of my obsession with sorting out the finances and I think he realises that without my savings we would be screwed right now.
Here's to the next year and all it brings including a baby in 10 weeks time :beer:0 -
I have decided that Thursday shall be my end of week day as it's when our veg box is delivered. Bf and I both get £10 spending cash but have to put any left over pennies from the previous week back in the pot. I have added up last weeks spends. Aprox £80 on food and household and £20 on Xmas presents leaves £35 of the allocated £135 ( what I will get as maternity allowance) to go back into the savings.
We have been a bit slack sticking to meal plan this week and now have a fridge full of veg to use up. Planning roasted veg with halloumi for tea tomorrow. Bf was off sick today and made a big batch of soup to take to work.
Getting a bit fed up with having nothing in my name. Keep meaning to ask bf to check mortgage 2 and see if we have paid anything off it yet. My dad controls mortgage 1 and will only op once a year now I have reduced the payments so I rarely get updates as to how it is doing. I have online access to the new Santander account I made bf open but obviously anything that needs doing I need him there. I really want to open a first direct account to get access to their savings rates but I know I will just be rejected. I shall have to just keep going with what I am allowed to do.0 -

The first direct savings rate has dropped to 6%, which works out 3% over the year, so unless your getting the £125 for opening it, give it a miss and go for the nationwide flex direct. If you know a nationwide member, you can both get £50 each and the interest is 5% before tax on balances up to £2,500. £1,000 must pass through the account each month. :T you can have up to 4 accounts each, just opened my 2nd, so will update on statement day whether 5% is paid on both!]Mortgage 1. Unfortunately as I don't think any bank will give either of us an account for a bit we shall have to stick to Santander for a while. Is fine. Building up our creditworthiness is a slow process and we knew it would be.
Our only remaining debts are our overdrafts and we have been reluctant to pay them off before we get our emergency funds sorted. Bf miraculously doesn't seem to ever pay any interest where as mine is around £15 a month for being about £1200 od. I know once it is gone barclays will close my account (we do not have a good relationship:rotfl:) so I can't risk just chucking money at it. However it does need to go so I think once ef clears 5k which will probably be next week then we shall have to look at it again. Maybe just the change from weekly spends could go towards getting it down.
Nsd today and a pleasant day at work for a change. Both of us feeling poorly so cuddles under blankets with the cat while watching TV was the perfect evening.0 -
Ha I just tried nationwide just in case and no luck. Didn't think so. Never mind0
