It depends on the cooker - some auto's are cook first and then auto shift to keep warm.

Most though are heat on high until it reaches the right temperature and then auto change to cook on low.

If you can find the manufacturer's web site there may be more information there.

    A quick answer needed! ;)

I am about to put a brisket joint into the slow cooker - do i remove the strings on it or not?

I try not to cook stuff that i will not eat, but is this an exception and are these strings best to stay?

I always leave the string on mine as they are meant to hold the joint together aren't they whilst cooking so it should be ok.

My eight-year-old has just made supper - browned a few lumps of casserole steak and layered them with leeks, potato, swede, carrot etc. Two beef oxo cubes on top, some wholegrain mustard, then a can of Guinness and an equal measure of water. We're giving it a couple of hours on "high" until we know if there's enough liquid in it, then it's going on "low".

Will let you know what it's like in six hours or so...

I made this yesterday and it was so scrummy I had to share

1 large can evaporated milk ( i used carnation brand but guess you could use any brand)
and enough water/milk to top upto 700ml

    70 g rissotto rice

    2 tbsp sugar
Bung it all in slow cooker and cook on high for 2hrs 30 , I only have a dinky 1.5 ltr slow cooker and this made enough for 3 portions.

It came out thick and creamy like the ambrosia rice pudding but much tastier:D

i have a sc which gets used occasionally, but not as often as i would like!!
DD1 not a big fan of casseroles (may be the way i make them!) so i thought i was limited in what i could make!
anyway, reading through all this thread has totally inspired me, and as said daughter also doesnt like 'chewy' meat, i was wondering about doing a joint in the sc - perhaps pork? have got the flash fry part, but a bit confused as to whether to add liquid and how much to the sc while the joint is cooking?
also, if they will fit, can veg be done at the same time?
not a great cook, but am willing to try............
